Iraq curfew means 'low' death toll

Christopher Bodeen, Baghdad
November 7, 2006

A CURFEW has contributed to a relative peace in Iraq's most dangerous regions following the guilty verdict and death sentence on former dictator Saddam Hussein.

But despite one of the tightest security crackdowns this year, the US military said three more Americans had died and police said 72 people were found dead across Iraq by daybreak.

Iraq's Government has imposed the open-ended curfew on Baghdad and the edgy provinces of Diyala and Salahuddin, closed its international airport, added checkpoints and stepped up police patrols with the US military. All leave for Iraqi soldiers was cancelled.

No widespread bloodshed was reported in Baghdad, despite raucous celebrations by Shiites, who defied the curfew, and angry counter-protests in Sunni regions.

3. Do you suppose they engineered the verdict timing in order to call for a curfew?
-I mean thinking (incorrectly, it turns out) that it would cut down on reports of death for the US elections?

4. The solution seems obvious...curfew 24/7.
No one is allowed out, EVER! They'll just have to order in and work from home.

5. 72 found dead during Iraq curfew. Apparent cover-up of casualties
We would have to go to the Australian newspaper "The Age" to find out that 72 bodies of innocent Iraqis were found during the curfew.
If you read the newspaper you would think that calm reigns in Iraq.
No.
Violence continued unabated, and those in command and/or the mainstream media decided to cover this up by not citing the number of victims on the day before the elections.

9. The pond scum reporter almost didn't get that information in this article at ALL!
It's added at the very, very end, as if almost an afterthought, and you can't help but notice how he attempts to devaluate its significance altogether, as if it simply just doesn't matter, after all:
~snip~
Lieutenant Thaer Mahmoud, head of a police section responsible for releasing daily death tolls, gave no details the 72 people whose bodies were recovered, but the number of dead is not unusual for Baghdad, where the tortured bodies of people abducted by death squads are routinely found dumped around the city or floating in the Tigris River.

Reporter:
Christopher Bodeen, Baghdad

Trying to see what I could find on the reporter, this is all I could locate in 5 minutes or so:
There must have been many varying, if not out-right contradicting
reports of freedom of reporters in China. I know an American reporter, Chris
Bodeen, personally. His father was the American Cultural Attaché here in
Denmark, and his mother is a musician with whom I have performed. Chris
moved from the United States to live in Taiwan, and married a local Chinese
girl. He works for Reuters and was later stationed in Beijing, where he now
is. I met Chris socially and the inevitable question came up, "How free are
you to move around and report?". He admitted that he himself was surprised
at the freedom he was given, specially taking into consideration the fact
that he is not pro CCP. He travels extensively around China without any
hassle or being shadowed, and is allowed to send his reports without their
being censored. Had I not got that right from the horse's mouth, I myself
wouldn't have thought that.
