WP: GOP Candidate Heather Wilson Files Complaint in N.M.'s 1st

GOP Candidate Files Complaint in N.M.'s 1st

Rep. Heather Wilson (R) today sent a letter to the House Administration Committee Chairman Vern Ehlers (R-Mich.) complaining that some precincts in New Mexico's 1st District do not have enough ballots.

In a precinct in Bernalillo County, Wilson alleges that at 8:45 local time this morning voters were already being turned away due to a dearth of ballots at their polling place. "Additional ballots were available at the warehouse and were withheld from voting sites," she writes. "Voters turned away were not offered provisional ballot as required by federal law."

The letter requests that observers be sent by the House Administration Committee to the district in order to correct any irregularities.

The 1st District race is expected to be one of the closest races in the country and -- literally -- every vote counts. Wilson is surely setting the stage for a potential appeal of the vote results should she end up on the wrong end of her race against state Attorney General Patricia Madrid (D)....

18. Exactly!
The Republicans are the party that want to prevent people from voting and that want to make recounts impossible.

Election fairness and transparency should NOT be a partisan issue!

10. This morning on Stephanie Miiller, a caller complained
that her campaign, or maybe New Mexico Republicans, were calling Democratic voters and telling them their polling places had changed. They tried to get a TRO, but were denied.

14. Gee, if Congress had only acted in the past six years
After the Florida 2000 debacle, if only Congress had acted on election reform. But I guess they had other priorities. Doesn't Exxon's record-setting quarterly profits make you feel good anymore, Ms. Wilson? Now you're all fretful that there weren't enough ballots, or that enough money wasn't spent to ensure a smooth process on election day? I guess your successor will have to address that issue, since you and your caucus were too busy making sure that Halliburton could remain solvent and continue paying the vice president.

You had your agenda, addressed what was important to you, and now you find out that it came back and bit you in the butt. Sorry Ms. Wilson. Perhaps the new Democratic majority in Congress will get around to election reform. One good bit of news for you: The minimum wage will almost surely be increased, and you probably look great in a little paper hat.

15. Richardson? Hello? Buehler?
This is why Bill Richardson shouldn't run for president. He can't even get his people enough fucking ballots!! Useless windbag!

16. It's not his JOB.
It's the secretary of state and all the local election boards.

I do hope this one is headed for a manual recount. I can't believe there are that many stupid people in District One, people who fell for all the poison that bony b*** was spewing and those illegal robocalls directing voters to the wrong polling places 10 or more miles away.

If you know anybody who voted for that sickening waste of flesh, remind them about how ugly this campaign was and tell them to expect another one just like it in two short years.

17. What an unbelievable difference ONE LOUSY DAY makes!
Now they know what they have been doing. Why, they scream, cry, whine, and run in circles...the poor poor babies.

LOL! I don't see a lot of sympathy for any of the buggers.

20. Tired of hearing people in NM putting down Richardson!
Gee, too bad he won by more than half the vote! I like him a lot and think he is working hard and, so far has brought NM into at least the 20th century (he has a tough job with this "good ole' boy" state's backward way of thinking). Have you ever taken a close look at our laws here? They are so old and vague they leave everything wide open for interpretation. My God, the grocery tax was just repealed this year (signed by Richardson) from when it was put into place the depression! I'm hoping he doesn't run for President - we need him here!

19. Heather, where were you in 2004?
NM was plagued with voting irregularities, and you were nowhere to be found when NM needed a recount. Now you're whining?
