Bush disappointed at Republicans' losses (Rove Formally Informs Him)
http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=topNews&storyid=2006-11-08T045533Z_01_N07478317_RTRUKOC_0_US-USA-ELECTIONS-BUSH.xml

President George W. Bush, disappointed at the Democrats' seizure of the House of Representatives, will hold a news conference on Wednesday to urge his opponents to work with him, the White House said.

The news conference was set for 1 p.m. EST (1800 GMT).

White House spokesman Tony Snow said the outcome of the elections, in which Democrats were projected to win control of the House and pick up several Senate seats, was "not what we would've hoped."

"But it also gets us to a point: Democrats have spent a lot of time complaining about what the president has done. This is an opportunity for them to kind of stand up," Snow said.

Bush, whose Iraq policy was a key factor in the elections, had dinner with top aides and close friends Brad Freeman and Don Evans, the former commerce secretary, and watched the election returns on television in the White House residence.

He was told formally by his top political adviser, Karl Rove, that the House had gone to the Democrats.

131. Yeah -- I wanna see Rove explain "The Math"
I heard that smug little *** on NPR last week.

Robert Siegel asked him how he could be so confident. Rove kept insiting that he was looking at polls that no one else could see.

When Siegel said "but if you do the math...."

Rove interrupted him and said "You can do YOUR math. I'm doing THE math."

I'd be really interested to see THE math now.

141. dem agenda: fix the voting problems!
If we are to keep these gains and grow it in the next election, the
new Congress has to turn around the voting problems and eliminate
the voter suppression. I believe if the voting were easy and reliable
for all citizens it would be a long time before Repugs controlled
anything ever again.

Not this time. Nuh-uh. No way. :nuke:

Jesus H. Christ, is he an invalid? Can he not use a TV or "the internets" by himself or has he been forbidden to do so?

I've NEVER in my life heard of a politician who WASN'T a political junkie, who didn't listen to EVERYTHING who didn't have even a clue of what at least 70% of the country is talking about.

What a loser. He deserves to go down.

so a) it was turned to Fox and so Bush didn't know what was going on or b) he was watching tv and didn't understand what all the numbers meant.

news conference at 1:30 PM (I believe - please check me on the exact time).

He will have to be highly medicated just to stumble through FEIGNING humbleness. Just perhaps he'll completely melt down like he almost did during his previous press conferences?

I bet he's so pissed that he gives a standard, off the ear-piece speech and leaves the room with very few questions. If he stays, let's hope the Press Corps grill him like there's no tomorrow.

Oh man, I bet the thought of Madame Speaker Pelosi has him so angry he'll down a pint of Jack Black this AM. KKKarl quick! Lock the liquor cabinet. :P

and it will be one where the mean spirited and domineering policies of the GOP will be remembered. It is a whole new ball game, and a new era in Congress has come much closer to reality.

Let's hope these gains will be built in two years from now as a Democratic President with strong coat tails takes office.

"...will hold a news conference on Wednesday to urge his opponents to work for him..."

Democrats have spent a lot of time complaining about what the president has done. This is an opportunity for them to fix all his messes and take the blame for his screwups," Snow said.

They're in denial bigtime. They think they can dictate to us just like they have done to the Bush-league Republican lapdog Congress for 6 years.

Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 07:38 AM by The Backlash Cometh
Six years we didn't exist for Bush. Six long years while he and his cronies raided and plundered our villages and raped our children. And there's no way to count how many people they inspired to do the same on a local and state level.

We won a real mandate, and it's time to clean up the mess he created. It's too late to teach him how to pick up his own toys after himself. No point in treating him like a child who has the ability to learn. All I can say is, HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM POLLS NOW, YOU SON OF A BITCH!

No, George, this isn't the Texas statehouse. This is not where you said that you'd be willing to work with Democrats and when you has former Texas Lieutenant Governor Bob Bullock to assist you. This is Washington, DC in 2006 and 2007 where you'd been governing like a right-wing radical and treating progressives like dirt.

George, your pet Grover Norquist said that bipartisanship was like date rape. We don't trust you now, we don't see any reason to trust you in the near future. You've proven to be the sort of person who can only be trusted when a thick hand is around your necks and your hands are in clear sight at all times.

Rummors that McHenry is Gay, there is nothing wrong with that, but Rove Anoff and Rove, came into this area, and bought the election for McHenry. We had a republican sheriff of 24 years, that could have been elected and that is what the republican and many democrats wantedd, but the machine put the money in this district to get a win for McHenry in the primary...if the sheriff had gotten by the primary into the general election, he would have won....Now if some outside help doesn't come in to the district, we will have the little short whatever , for 50 years.....HELP

I wouldn't trust * one inch. This phoney contrition is just a KKKarl ploy to get the Dems to go easy on teh pResidency and to buy time for the GOP to destroy all the documentary evidence and paper trails proving the corruption of the last 6 years.

What's needed is nothing les than a wholesale sweep and clean of the institutions and processes of government. And that starts with the office of pResident.
