7. That's the way, being ahead 2700 votes is as good as a landslide
Plus over 37,000 ballots have NOT been counted in Fairfax County, i.e., a highly democratic county.

Thank Goodness, if all continues to be fair, we (Virginia Voters) get to shed Senator Macaca in Virginia!

The facts and the votes seem to be on our side but it will take close to an exorcism and a couple of men in white jackets to extricate Senator "cry baby- see you tomorrow" Allen.

But this is so SWEET! :-) :applause:

39. The GOP Corporate Media
will NOT help Democrats declare a Senate victory until the Repugs have done everything in their power to take it.

It is good for Webb to declare victory NOW. The Democratic leadership needs to come out and declare the Senate victory, NOW. The GOP Corporate media is not going to even say that the Dems have a "potential" victory of taking the Senate. They are framing it as: "Democrats make GAINS in the Senate."

Declare VICTORY NOW!!

10. I agree. From the VA state website
http://sbe.virginiainteractive.org/index.htm

Precincts Reporting: 2430 of 2443 (99.47%)

Candidates Party Vote Totals Percentage
J H Webb Jr Democratic 1,152,600 49.43%
G F Allen Republican 1,151,076 49.36%
G G Parker Independent Green 25,818 1.11%
Write Ins 2,299 0.10%

The remaining votes will likely favor Webb.

Webb is correct to declare victory.

There will likely be a recount.

OVER an 11,000 voter lead in Webb's favor (equates to 1%) from the NOT YET COUNTED 38,000 ballots in Fairfax County (big time democratic NoVA).

I don't know why these 38,000 Fairfax County ballots have NOT been counted and won't be counted until tomorrow but I heard it validated on both CNN and MSNBC.

I think ole' Senator Macaca may be FORCED to give a concession speech NLT 5 PM tomorrow.

Well, let's hope and pray that the voters in Fairfax County, like they have in the past, vote TRUE BLUE?

23. I had the delight of being 8 feet in front of him when he declared victory.
Allen had just blandly told his supporters he was off to bed, assuring them he knew they'd be 'eagles and hawks' about making sure every vote was counted. Within about 20 - 30 minutes Webb appeared on the stage at his victory rally, then a bunch of vets marched out with his brother, who played the first few bars of the Marines' theme song on his bagpipes (wearing a kilt).

Then Webb turned to the crowd and calmly beamed that we won. We all just about lost it, having followed the excrutiating details of the race for hours, including that the state board of elections website continued to show him as behind while CNN was showing him ahead. The suddenness of his announcement took us all by surprise. Though none of us quite understood how over 30,000 votes haven't been counted in Fairfax County, the heart of our own GOTV efforts... it seems too good to be true. What a delicious sweetness to suddenly see that all our efforts were worth it!! Of course, everyone's work throughout VA was every bit as essential, but there's something about actually being part of putting it over the top... being the last in and all.

Anyway, I wish I could capture the moment for my DU friends better, but I'm totally wiped on 3 hrs sleep and am not too articulate at the moment.

And kudos to the Commonwealth Coalition for doing so much to educate the electorate about the 'marriage' amendment... they had a tremendous impact on getting out the democratic vote, too!

24. Great News JudyM
However, us Democrats in Virginia must keep on top of this issue because if there's any way to fight this Webb Victory, Former Senator Macaca will do it!

I'm not letting go and celebrating fully until Allen gives his concession speech. As we all know, he's not known for his gracious mannerisms. :(

Yes, we've won if we don't let Allen's and the RNC's lawyers DEMAND a recount, perform dirty tricks, and, in general, like the 2000 Presidential Election, hold the entire Country in suspended animation. :scared: However, if we are on guard - the victory is ours to keep. :-)

But again, the fight for this critical Senate Seat is not ABSOLUTELY over until Allen squawks his concession speech.

that means a free recount to any candidate that wants one.
This race may not be decided for a couple of weeks unless
Allen falls on his sword. Metaphorically or not, his choice.

Current numbers:

5:22am CST

J H Webb Jr Democratic 1,170,686 49.58%
G F Allen Republican 1,162,327 49.22%
G G Parker Independent Green 26,098 1.11%

31. You can't make up 8,000 votes in a recount -
Allen can call for one and the Commonwealth of Virginia will grant it if he asks, but I can't see that kind of vote deficit being turned around.

Provisional and absentee ballots are another questions, but I think the majority of those are from Democratic counties anyway.

I think that Allen is quite simply toast.

Guess Allen does NOT take his own advice. Spoil-sport...thinking of no one but his obviously large ego...slowing the process down.

IF the machines aren't tampered with, I truly believe Webb DID win. It truly would be a tragedy if Pugs "steal" victory again from Dems ...even if just one Senate seat, and with it...the Majority.

Let Truth prevail this time. Oh, please.

but we MUST remain vigilent. There are six weeks until the dems take over and can you begin to imagine what bush and his merry men can do in six weeks? We don't want them to do ANYthing that would allow them to declare Marshal Law. We need to let the sitting senate and house know that we will hold them criminally accountable should they approve any radical moves by this administration. And we need to let bush and cheney (aka the duo of darkness) know that should they decide to emerge from their bunkers to perform any kind of mayhem, impeachment and prison await both of them.

42. Four precincts in Virginia have not yet reported (as of 10:30A Wed):
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 12:28 PM by struggle4progress
one of the seven precincts in Fairfax City (District 11), two of the sixteen precincts in James City County (District 03), and one of the thirteen precincts in Isle of Wight County (District 04).

The uncounted precincts are: in Fairfax City, Central Absentee Precinct (C011); in Isle of Wight County, Raynor (0505); and in James City County, Central Absentee Precinct (C003) and Roberts B (0502). Raynor has about 400 voters and Roberts B about 2300.

http://sbe.virginiainteractive.org/index.htm
http://www2.sbe.virginia.gov/VotRegServ/Polling_Place/PollingPlacecounty-city.asp

Fairfax City is near Alexandria. James City County and Isle of Wight County are in the general area of Norfolk.

Virginia sent out nearly 132K absentee ballots this year, of which 110,154 were returned. The question is, how many of those are in the uncounted Central Absentee Precincts of Fairfax City and James City County. According to Virginia rules, the absentee ballots should have been counted when the polls closed, including those from the Central Absentee Precints, so it's not clear what has happened at the unreported Central Absentee Precincts in Fairfax City and in James City County.

http://www.sbe.virginia.gov/cms/Statistics_Polling_Places/Registration_Statistics/voting_statistics.html
http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+24.2-710
http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+24.2-711
http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+24.2-712

There are, in addition, some unknown number of provisional ballots.

<edit>: Similar post by onenote argues that the missing James City County precincts are inactive, since neither shows votes in recent elections. Also, the Virginia state election site has just updated Fairfax City to 7/7 precincts reporting, still with a zero total for Central Absentee Precinct (C011). So a reasonable guess might be that only Raynor (with less than 400 registered voters) and some provisional ballots are still waiting to be counted.

47. There will be a recount.
He needed a margin of 11k votes (1/2 of 1%) to keep Allen from being able to demand a recount and not have to pay for it. Count on Macaca to demand that recount; and watch for shenanigans as it is conducted. The Dems may have a narrow edge in the Senate. Still, expect Holy Joe to screw some things up; and look at numerous weak-spined Dem senators to punt when they should run the ball. But it still looks good -- compare the situation to the past 6 years when the Pukes have owned the government outright.

55. Hopeful for the first time since Nov. 2000
Boy oh boy. I'm just hoping that the GOP powers-that-be there pressure Allen into conceding to avoid any more of a spotlight on the dirty tricks that went on in Virginia. With investigations by the FBI already underway, perhaps the idiots there will recognize that the last thing they want is to have a recount that has all eyes on Virginia and the voting process. Especially with voters picking "corruption" as a top concern. Let's hope forces can put it to Allen and make him walk away.

And don't bother pulling that fork from your ass, buddy. Might as well keep it as a reminder that you? Are done.
