Wisconsin Communities Vote On Bringing Troops Home

24 Of 32 Communities Voted To Pull Troops In April's Election

POSTED: 11:45 pm CST November 7, 2006

MILWAUKEE -- Some voters in Wisconsin have sent a clear message to President George W. Bush about Iraq: Get out.

Milwaukee is among 10 communities across Wisconsin that voted on referendums asking whether the United States should pull troops from Iraq. City voters overwhelmingly cast their ballots to bring home the troops.

People in the 10 communities gathered signatures on petitions to place the advisory issue on the ballot. In last April's election, 24 of 32 communities with such measures voted to pull out the troops, including Madison, Shorewood and Whitefish Bay.

In Lake Delton in Sauk County and Boscobel in Grant County, voters approved the measure by about 2-1 margins, while in the Dane County town of Springdale, it passed by four votes out of 944 ballots cast.
