Democrats win majority of state legislatures
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20061108/pl_nm/usa_elections_legislatures_dc_1

CHICAGO (Reuters) - The wave of voter discontent that put Democrats in charge of the U.S. House of Representatives also hit state legislatures, where the party won control of more chambers than Republicans.

Democrats picked up control of at least nine chambers in Tuesday's election, winning the House and Senate in Iowa and New Hampshire, the House in Michigan, Minnesota, Oregon, and Indiana, and the Wisconsin Senate, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

"The Democrats have won pretty much across the board," said Tim Storey, an elections analyst at the nonpartisan group.

2. Election central in Lane County Oregon was very happy
which after the gloom there the past few elections was delightful. Peter DeFazio was in great form and made it clear this was a whole new ball game in the House and scattered people in the Democrat celebration room called out, "Mr Chairman" more then once.

In the last five years, didn't the Democrats vote for the Patriot Act, war in Iraq, etc.

10. Democratic wave washes over statehouses (stateline.org)

(Posted 4:45 a.m. EST)

Democratic gains vastly outnumbered Republican gains in the nation’s state legislatures Nov. 7, enough to take control of legislative chambers in at least six states – including the New Hampshire House for the first time since at least 1922.

Democratic victories in statehouses paralleled the party’s coup in the U.S. House. Final results in the 6,119 state legislative races nationwide will tell whether Democrats were able to break a near-even split in partisan control of state legislatures.

But the results were true to history: Only once since 1938 has the president's party won state legislative seats in a midterm election.

In addition to New Hampshire, Democrats took won new legislative majorities in Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. They also widened their majorities in several other statehouses, including Colorado, Kentucky and North Carolina.

<...>

Democrats also took control of the Iowa House, Senate and governor’s mansion for the first time in 40 years. The party gained five seats in the Iowa House and now has a 54-45 majority, with one seat undecided, according to preliminary results reported by the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). Democrats moved the state Senate from a tie to a 29-21 majority, according to NCSL. Democrat Chet Culver defeated U.S. Rep. Jim Nussle in the gubernatorial race to replace outgoing Gov. Tom Vilsack (D).

...many more victories itemized in this article.

16. REDISTRICT NOW!!!
This is the real reason for the 94 "republican revolution"

In 91 and 92, the Republicans redistricted many states and then carried them in 94.

Please write your state legislator and ask him or her to redistrict

17. Yes!!! And No Need To Even Go Crazy
Just reverse what the idiot Repubs did and make it fair. W/ merely fair districting Dems will win HUGE. Look how big we won w/ crazy gerrymandering, just imagine how good we would do if it was actually fair.
