Allen awaits official tally
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 02:43 PM by Cheney Killed Bambi
A senior advisor to George Allen's Senate campaign said Allen would wait until after the vote is official later this month to decide whether to seek a recount.

Ed Gillespie said Jim Webb was leading Allen by about 7,000 votes this morning, or about .3 percent of the total votes cast. He said that could change during the official canvas that is starting today in localities around the state. He said it is likely some vote totals will change as mistakes in tabulating totals are discovered....

"We'll want to see how the canvassing turns out" before deciding on whether to ask for a recount, he said.

Looks like he might not request a recount!

VA doesn't have provisions like FL had. They can't reverse several thousand votes from thin air.

Maybe they should have stolen a few thousand more votes?

Is basically a retally. Not a recount, but a retally. They go back through the totals and the numbers and make sure that they copied column A into database B correctly, and so on.

13. In Va., Allen refuses to concede to Webb
RICHMOND, Va. - Republican Sen. George Allen refused to concede defeat Wednesday, even as Democrat Jim Webb declared victory and began assembling a transition team.

With Republican Sen. Conrad Burns' loss in Montana, the Democrats would gain control of the Senate if Webb's lead holds. The margin between the two Virginia candidates was about 7,000 votes.

"The votes are in and we won," Webb declared. With 99 percent of precincts reporting, Webb had 1,169,285 votes, or 49.6 percent, to Allen's 1,162,577, or 49.3 percent.

Allen's campaign, however, said the Senator would wait for a full review of the Virginia vote.

25. I believe it was Stalin who said...
"It's not who votes that counts, it's who counts the votes."

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/08/us/politics/08cnd-recount.html

After certification, a losing candidate has 10 days to file a recount request in the state courts. The petition will be considered by a panel made up of the chief judge of the Circuit Court in Richmond and two judges appointed by the chief justice of the State Supreme Court. Those judges then set out guidelines for conducting the recount.

Two of three judges appointed by the Chief Justice of the Va. Supreme Court? Just who is he, anyway?

http://www.regent.edu/news/hassellchiefjustice.html

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.—Leroy Rountree Hassell, Sr., a Norfolk native and Regent University Jurist in Residence, was recently selected Virginia’s Supreme Court Chief Justice. His election occurred under a new law passed by the General Assembly, allowing a majority vote over seniority for selection.

He's the "jurist in residence" at what was once known as "CBN University", that's who. Boy, are we screwed. :scared:

who have both Diebold and Scanning Machines? That's not many paper ballots and scanning machines are a helluva lot more accurate than "hanging chads."

It's just a matter of when Allen will wake up to the REALITY that he lost.

Yeah baby, you lost on those gawd awful Diebold machines that you had no problem not sporting a paper trail. Score one for J U S T I C E.

46. It is Virginia law to poll the precints to check for math errors after every election
That should only take a few days, and they should by all means do that. But a total recount could take 3 weeks. Perhaps Allen should have considered this before he uttered his Macaca tirade. I think that is the main thing that brought on his loss, of course there are other factors too.

53. They can only recount 25% of the VA voters who voted using
optical scanners. The remaining 75% voted on paperless Diebold machines. That tally aint gonna change because there is NO POSSIBILITY to actually recount these votes.

This is precious. Allen is toast almost from the start because the Republican Manufactured Diebold machines ATE 75% of the votes in Virginia. Count the tallies folks and tell Allen to BE A MAN and admit defeat. :-)

56. Canvassing is Va state law.
The votes are not recounted during the canvassing. It's the tally's that are rechecked for transcription/math errors etc. It's done this way every year. Unlikely that the vote shift will be enough to flip the outcome but there will be a vote shift. In fact there already has been.
