Military Contractors Fall on News of Rumsfeld Resignation After Holding Steady on Midterm News

NEW YORK (AP) - Shares in military contractors plunged Wednesday after Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld resigned midday, causing uncertainty about the future of some Pentagon programs ahead of the fiscal 2008 defense budget.

The country's largest military contractor, Lockheed Martin Corp. was one of the biggest losers, shedding $2.30, or 2.6 percent, to $85.19 on the New York Stock Exchange.

But the decline was broad, with armaments maker General Dynamics Corp., combat communications systems maker Raytheon Co., and government services company Halliburton Co. all falling into negative territory.

1. It's ridiculous that there is speculation involved with the resignation
of a defense secretary.

2. If it were true, wouldn't that be grounds enough to try rummy for treason?
How can one honestly say rummy was working with the best interest of the troops and Americans if he is so closely tied to the fucking performance of the corporate war machinery?

Oh and the heads of these samesaid companies for MAKING rummy the lead in their selling death for profit ponzi scheme.

5. War profiteering was treason during WWII and in my book
it still should be. F00ck, the military industrial complex.

4. yeah....right.
It's not like this administration has no interest in the Carlyle Group's acquisitions...or the profit margin of KBR, Halliburton, and subsidiaries etal. And, it's not like there's been any guilty pleas in corruption cases regarding the defense industry and government contracts. And, it's not like one of the major manufacturing industry's in the US is the arms/defense, producing all that material needed for wars the chicken-hawks love to start.

3. what this says to me is that those shareholders must strongly
believe there is corruption in the Pentagon. I mean do they really think the Pentagon would give sweet heart deals to those said companies "insert sarcasm here".
