First of all, the VA Secretary of Elections is a Democrat appointee (Warner). She was less than helpful with the Deeds 2006 recount. That will be corrected so at least she won't work against Webb.

Second, the VA recount waits until election certification, which takes a few weeks everywhere. That's the official, we've got everything, final totals.

Third, the recount will blaze by in a day or two if its like the one in 2005 for the A.G. race. It's just a totaling and math operation. Deeds, our guy for A.G. was NOT allowed to count optical scan paper ballots (200,000) because the law only allows manual recount of real paper ballots and these are considered optical scan.

It's very specifically stacked to run quickly and favor whoever is ahead at the time.

The Democrats in 2005 said "it will be a long drawn out process." Nope and it shouldn't be this time.

The qualifier is court challenges by Allen to the law. I'd be surprised if they work because the law is not unconstitutional. It's stupid but that's different. You can have a stupid law as long as it's constitutional.

The Republicans in Virginia are hoisted on their own petard. All they can do is be "sorelosermen" as they call us when we question their crap.

In addition, a recount opens up the ability to look at the statistical aspects of this.

Webb should have many more votes in Northern Virginia, many many. I live there and am active in the elections. In 2005 Northern Virginia was 60%-40% Democrat (Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria). On a precinct basis, it was as high as 75%. Mine was in the mid sixties for the Democrats (the whole ticket). If Webb shows below those 2005 totals, we have questions.

Why would he post less than 2005 Dem Governor candidate?

The vote in Northern Virginia in 2006 was AGAINST the right wing candidate for Governor hand picked by Robertson and Falwell. Why would Allen, more high profile as a right wing extremist, do better than the 2005 Republicans in No.VA?

If they want a recount, then they get to answer these any many more questions.

We'll see. More on this later.

Allen had just announced he was going to bed, 20 minutes later Webb came out, along with Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, a bunch of veterans and his brother playing the Marine corps theme song on bagpipes... what a riot. Webb succinctly and matter-of-factly grinned that we'd won. What a moment of sheer, unbridled joy but we could barely believe it ... we'd been glued to the results and the board of election website... and it seemed like such a thin margin. 137. We celebrated all day

We took the day off and just stayed home (it was raining heavily here in the northeast all day). We cooked up a couple good dishes and had a couple bottles of wine. It was the best day ever!

My husband and I stayed at our computers and read all the stories. Sometimes we would go to the dining room table and watch things like bush's press conference and speech. Such fun, watching that arrogant little prick get slapped down. We particularly loved that second question, where the reporter repeated the litany of insults Pelosi has thrown bush's way (incompetent, dangerous, a moron).

The other thing that cracked us up was when bush said, "The people have spoken. Now it's time to move on."

I repeat, it was the BEST DAY EVER!!!!!!!!!!!
