Bush lowers partisan tone after election losses

By Matt Spetalnick 1 hour, 20 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Hamstrung by the collapse of his Republican majority in Congress,
President George W. Bush faced the humbling task on Thursday of reaching across party lines to top Democrats swept to power by voter anger over his Iraq policy.

Bush's fence-mending talks with Democratic leaders follow word that they have won enough seats to take control of the U.S. Senate and will control both houses of Congress for the first time in 12 years.

Reflecting a reshaped political landscape for his final two years in office, Bush announced the resignation on Wednesday of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, the first victim of the Republicans' heavy losses in Tuesday's midterm elections.

A longtime Bush loyalist, Rumsfeld had become a lightning rod for critics of the Iraq war.

Trying to salvage the rest of his presidency, Bush promised to strike a new tone of bipartisanship after years of partisan rancor. He insisted the voters' message was clear.

1. Yeah, but he can't do it.
Gonna be funny to see him pretend to try, though.

2. Oh, puke
He's still a criminal idiot. I'm loving today, and I still look forward to the day when I never have to think about that man except as an ex-not-really-elected president.
And the hands down worst president in American History.

and now we're suppose to help him salvage a legacy? In his dreams.

6. I never trusted him since he first ran
for the Presidency and I've even less reason to trust him now. Junior knows he's out numbered plain and simple. And he's probably afraid of a continual gridlock and so what if he is. I welcome gridlocks if it means stopping him from doing whatever he wants.

'it would mark a return to Bush's roots as Texas governor where he was known for reaching across the aisle to Democrats. He ran for president in 2000 as a "uniter, not a divider."' are they talking about the same twit in the oval office? From everything I've learned about his time as governor in Texas, he pretty much did things as he has been doing - his way. And with rove at his side back in Texas, he got into office to begin with after a very nasty smear campaign against his democratic challenger. Same ole bush just switch the years around. bush has been anything but a uniter.

IMO, those bastards owe an accounting to the troops they've killed and crippled with their treachery. No one will ever convince me bush, cheney, rumsfeld, rice, and Powell didn't know Doug Feith's Office of Special Plans was manufacturing evidence.
