Outsourcing is good for US economy: Ballmer

New Delhi, Nov. 9 (PTI): Favouring large-scale outsourcing of software services and R&D works to countries such as India, Steve Ballmer, CEO of the world's largest software company Microsoft, has said the US stands to benefit out of this.

"We will have to increasingly bank on India for scaling up our operations to rise on the next wave of innovation. So, outsourcing is here to stay. I have always stated that the so-called outsourcing is good for the US economy," he said while delivering the fifth Madhav Rao Scindia Memorial lecture yesterday night.

"With the US government making it more difficult for people to come into the US from outside, it puts in pressure on companies like ours to relatively grow our talent pool in India even faster. About 18 per cent of our engineers in Seattle are Indians," he said.

Ballmer, however, felt the attitude (against outsourcing) has improved over the last year.

The charge cards are just about full, Steve-o. No work for Americans means no sales for you. Food, software, food, software. Hmmmm. Maybe I'll buy FOOD FOR THE KIDS instead of a Windows upgrade.

I doubt that America kids will be sitting in front of the computer playing the latest Microsoft high tech. game without a bag of chips and a can of coke to go with it. We'll have to watch and see. I'm putting my money on the food (human instinct tells me to).

4. Probably mistranslated
the comment should have read - Outsourcing is good for those who control the US economy. The domestic workforce gets shafted as wages are driven down, jobs disappear and the middle class dissolves.

That wonderful scam known as "globalisation" is just a way of moving capital from those who have very little, relatively speaking, to those who already have obscene amounts of the stuff.

Hugo Chavez is absolutely right - unfettered capitalism leads us to hell.

25. yup
his attitude has lost major parts of India to M$ products... State of Kerela (sp?) in India is converting all their school computers to Linux (just read this in Linux Journal)...

most of the 3rd world is/will be using Linux (Ubuntu, etc.), due to licensing costs...

Ballmer, go suck rocks... you and your kind are why Hubby lost his job and could never find another...

8. Good....I agree....Let's outsource CEO's and CFO's...we would save MILLIONS
Let's have Indian or Chinese MBA's run our companies for $19K per year. Would save companies MILLIONS, allowing the workers to be better paid thus improving morale and productivity.

Ballmer, you are full of great ideas.

10. Outsourcing is GOOD for U.S. workers!
If you're making more than $10,000,000.00 per year,
or have a net worth of more than $100,000,000.00.

Sadly, that isn't me, or anyone I know. I bet you're
in the same boat.

I would listen to little Stevie Ballmer, but the
voices of people needing a boost in minimum wage from
a pathetic $5.15 per hour seems to have distracted me.

13. Who's going to buy computers and their $300 operating systems
...if we're all making $6/hr? These idiots in corporate America don't seem to understand that this economy can run off of credit cards for only so long. They expect consumers to fuel the economy but they don't want to actually pay us the wages that would enable that.

16. Oh sure he loves it there...
They have virtually no workers rights. Basically they are disposable people to this fucking pig. Pay them shit, treat them like shit and when they act up, bounce them out on their asses.

And the workers their know that and shit a brick anytime they have a grievance.

Ah yes, India the worlds work camp.

21. Microsoft has *humongous* profits. Outsourcing hardly affects their relative bottom line.
And it reduces the quality of their product. And it increases America's trade deficit. And it harms regular Americans.

These morons are only hurting themselves. Who buys the newest hardware/software, gagdgets, etc.? IT geeks. They have to buy it in order to keep up with new skills, certs., etc. If there are no jobs, then no one will buy this stuff.
