Smoking 'may block embryo's path'
Heavy smoking appears to cut the chances that an embryo will successfully imbed in the wall of the womb, research suggests.

Fertility experts examined pregnancy rates in women who underwent a cycle of IVF using donated eggs.

Researchers from Portugal and Spain, found 52.2% of light smokers became pregnant at the first time of asking, compared to 34.1% of heavy smokers.

They believe that suggests tobacco makes the uterus less receptive.

The study is published online by the journal Human Reproduction.

Cool - now the anti-smokers and anti-abortion rights people can team up and stamp out cigarettes altogether.

1. that's funny
I'm a smoker who never had any problems getting or staying pregnant. Had 5 children and my smallest was 7 lbs 8 oz. Never had a miscarriage either. Makes you wonder where they get the people to do these studies on.

7. They will, yes.
They see women not as independent human beings but as chalices and "potential" chalices to be filled with tomorrow's Christians. Accordingly, they want them to be passive in the world and "think of the (potential) baby."

As I once said, "A baby's not a baby, until it comes out. That's what birthdays are all about!"

9. I wonder when store clerks are going to start refusing to sell
cigs to any women who look like they're of childbearing age, and claim the right to do so based on their religion. My guess is that cigs are much more likely to prevent a fertilized egg from implanting than morning after pills are.

I wonder when anti-abortion protesters are going to start mobbing stores that sell tobacco products.
