White House resubmits Bolton nomination

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A Congressional source says the White House has re-submitted the nomination of UN Ambassador John Bolton to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, in an effort to get it considered during the lame duck session.

18. No, we can't filibuster
What if Dr. Frist invokes the nuclear option? We'll lose it forever as a tool, so let's not ever use it, so we can save it!

Hmmm. I guess those threats look pretty empty and ridiculous now, don't they?

Put this nomination in the crosshairs, take a deep breath, hold it, and slowly squeeze the trigger.

30. Will Frist actually go nuclear at this point?
Given that they will never get anyone approved in the next two years, it might not be such a good idea for Frist to pull that.

26. Wow...this is political suicide for Bush
Edited on Thu Nov-09-06 02:06 PM by Zodiak Ironfist
He renegs on yesterday's promises, he tries to hurt the US reputation further when the people clearly said "no" to his war, and he tries to move a man through a lame duck congress who couldn't get through Congress when it wasn't lame duck.

This is the stupidest move possible. It promises war between him and the new congress. His legislative cronies are now shaking in their shoes from the landslide this week and he is going to try to apply the thumbscrews to them to whip them back in line.

The only way this makes political sense is this: he is calling in favors. He is a control-freak who cannot stand ANY disloyalty. He is making everyone fall on their swords in order to assert his leadership over them and get his little war-starting puppet in the UN. He fears that the Repuke congress will turn on him to save their jobs (and he is right). You know who else may be asked to help out and fall on their sword for Bolton? Leiberman...he owes the WH a favor, doesn't he?

This will be fun to watch. Bush is going to make to whole puke party blow up just to assert his dominance.

39. lieberman: "I see no reason not to be for Bolton"
He supported Bolton as of 10/17/06:

http://www.mydd.com/story/2006/10/17/11515/710

Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman on Monday endorsed controversial Bush appointee John Bolton for a permanent slot at the United Nations - putting him at odds once again with Democrats and his Senate colleague, Chris Dodd.

Dodd, D-Conn., is the leading critic of Bolton, the controversial envoy Bush sent to the U.N. on a temporary ambassadorship after Democrats and some key Republicans balked at nominating him.

"I see no reason not to be for Bolton," Lieberman told a meeting of the New York Daily News editorial board.

"Based on his capabilities - and now based on his performance - I believe Bolton is well-qualified," he said.

lieberman must be neutralized as a source of extortion. How do we ensure he votes with us and not against us? With what's right, not what's wrong?

46. So much for Bush's "bipartisanship." This is as good as a declaration of
war on the voters and on the new Democratic Congress. This is just the sort of thing the voters wanted AN END TO. In-your-face fascism. Bolton is a fascist and a creator of death and chaos in the service of war profieers. If the lameduck Bush "pod people" Congress approves this, and the new Dem Congress doesn't immediately UNDO it, by RESCINDING that approval, we might as well NOT have had an election!
