Justice to Push for Surveillance Legislation
Edited on Thu Nov-09-06 01:52 PM by Marie26
WASHINGTON (CNN) - Justice Department officials said Thursday they are gearing up for a push to win passage of the Terrorist Surveillance Act during the coming "lame duck" session of Congress under Republican control.

President Bush earlier in the day listed passage of the program as one of several priorities for the session. The legislation - which would authorize the administration's warrantless surveillance program, including wiretapping phone calls between people in the United States and suspected terrorists overseas - has drawn objections from Democrats and Republicans.

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales was not available to comment, but his aides indicated he is likely to be making public appearances to push for passage in coming days.

3. My friend had a dog like this . . .
Most dogs, when confronted doing something wrong, will stop and slink away. My friend's dog, an inveterate bad behaver, would do whatever she was doing wrong faster. We caught her chowing down on some party refreshments that were laid out, and as we approached, instead of running away because she'd been caught, she started eating faster knowing that her time to gorge was being cut short.

The GOP is reminding me of that dog.

5. Dems need to say: If you want bipartisanship in 2007, let's have some now.
No bullshit lame duck bills without significant Dem support.

6. yup, leaving turds in the punch bowl on their way out...
this PLUS confirmation of Bolton for UN.

Our Dems need to fillibuster... and forget the gang of 14 agreements...

And IF they use the rule change to override the fillibuster.... we should privately communicate that WE will impeach and use the same rule changes for our advantage...
