Democrats are set to subpoena

http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-investigations10nov10,0,1887142.story

Democrats are set to subpoena
The new majority is expected to hold hearings on military spending and the Iraq war -- just for starters.

WASHINGTON — Rep. Ike Skelton knows what he will do in one of his first acts as chairman of the Armed Services Committee in the Democratic-led House: resurrect the subcommittee on oversight and investigations.

The panel was disbanded by the Republicans after they won control of Congress in 1994. Now, Skelton (D-Mo.) intends to use it as a forum to probe Pentagon spending and the Bush administration's conduct of the Iraq war.

It has been 12 years since Democrats were in control of both the House and Senate. But they are looking to make up for lost time, and in some cases, make the Bush administration and its business allies sweat.

...

"The American people sent a clear message that they do not want a rubber-stamp Congress that simply signs off the president's agenda," said Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.), who is in line to become chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. "Instead, they have voted for a new direction for America and a real check and balance against government overreaching."

19. Hear! Hear!
Methinks the new direction plans are well written and well hidden somewhere in order to "catch 'em" just when the time is right: that will be when they will less expect it.

Round 1 is just starting...

10. Now this makes sense..
All the signatures at the ready, when our Constitution is restored is a smart thing to do.
The Will of the People expressed in unison with reams of proof that this is not a partisan issue.

13. it is amazing....
The way the talking heads in the MSM kept the public informed about that. Very tiresome the manner in which they talked about this 24/7. Pre-empting American Idol, Natalie Holloway, and all other information so important to americans.

:sarcasm:

15. I would like to take this time to thank newt gingrinch and the crotch-watching
republick congress that DEMANDED a sitting President testify on such weighty matters as the definition of "sexual relations". It provides such an excellent precedent for having a sitting pretzeldent answer equally important questions like, "why are you such an asshole?" and other even better ones I'm sure Rep Conyers has written down somewhere.

16. THIS is the GOP's worst nightmare
A black man with a committee chairmanship and the power of subpoena. There are a LOT of questions that the American people deserve to have answered, and the Republicans have been completely incurious about them. The people paying the bills deserve to know what their money has been spent on, and that lets out the fatcats who have enjoyed record high profits, record low taxes, and the kind of free ride not seen since the heyday of royalty.

Let's roll up our sleeves and start digging. Somehow, I don't think we'll be the ones doing most of the sweating.

20. Note to Democrats: Go for the energy task force documents
The Bush Administration has gone to such lengths to keep their energy task force a secret, I am convinced there is something huge that would break if those documents came out. I have a feeling there is an Iraq war connection hidden in there, as well as some extremely shady people writing our energy policy (mid-east dictators and human rights violators perhaps?). It would not take up too much of their time to issue the subpoena, and it would almost certainly grab headlines across the nation.
