Waxman set to probe areas of Bush gov‘t
Staff and agencies
10 November, 2006

By ERICA WERNER, Associated Press Writer 5 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES - The Democratic congressman who will investigate the Bush administration‘s running of the government says there are so many areas of possible wrongdoing, his biggest problem will be deciding which ones to pursue.

There‘s the response to Hurricane Katrina, government contracting in Iraq and on homeland security, political interference in regulatory decisions by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Food and Drug Administration , , , ), D-Calif., told the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce.

Waxman, who‘s in his 16th term representing West Los Angeles, had plenty of experience leading congressional investigations before the Democrats lost control of the House to Republicans in 1994.

The scene made it into the movie "The Insider," but Waxman noted Friday that no subpoenas were issued to produce that testimony.

Interesting, it was my Doolittle file I was desiring placed on the top of the Waxman's pile, but I settle for DeLay, as others will become snared, including Doolittle. Smooth.

Doolittle needs to be indicted NOW so we can toss him out and initiate a Special Election, pronto!

6. New House leaders likely to make impact on business
New House leaders likely to make impact on business

By FT correspondents

Updated: 8:11 p.m. CT Nov 8, 2006
The new leaders of House committees who will be important for business are:

■John Dingell: The veteran Michigan Democrat will assume – for the second time in his career – the chairmanship of the powerful committee on energy and commerce, which has oversight of issues ranging from oil and gas supplies to telecommunications and healthcare.
(snip)

■Henry Waxman: The next chairman of the government reform committee, which has the authority to investigate any federal programme, has long been a thorn in the side of business. But now, given the power to control the committee's agenda, companies that have long been in Mr Waxman's sight, from government contractors such as Halliburton to oil companies such as ExxonMobil and BP, and pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer, are likely to be forced on centre stage in congressional oversight hearings and investigations.
(snip)

■Charles Rangel: It has been a long wait for Charles Rangel, who after 36 years on Capitol Hill is in line to assume the chairmanship of the powerful committee on ways and means, which sets taxes and trade policy. The New York congressman will skew tax breaks towards lower and middle-income families, and has long been associated with advancing the interests of his mainly black and Hispanic constituents in upper Manhattan.
(snip)

■Collin Peterson: As the likely new chairman of the agriculture committee, the Minnesota congressman is set to oppose administration efforts to push for changes to America's generous farm subsidies, further complicating efforts to revive stalled Doha Round trade talks.
(snip)

■Barney Frank: As the new chairman of the influential financial services committee, which oversees the banking, securities, insurance and housing industries, Mr Frank has a host of issues he would like to pursue over the next two years.

24. The scope & depth of the scandals is totally overwhelming.
One reason bush was able to evade being held accountable for anything is because anytime the media caught wind of wrongdoing, the admin. rushed into damage control. They hogged the airwaves with plenty of anti-liberal propaganda and before we turned around there was another scandal to examine & no time to investigate the previous scandal(s).

65. I know it . The administration has been ignoring him for years.
I've often wondered how Waxman feels as he keeps listing out all the scandals year after year and asking the White House to explain themselves and he gets bullshit responses....if he's lucky.

Reading some of the letters he's sent to them has frustrated the hell out of me. The questions he poses and issues he raises are legitimate and serious and I can't believe they've been able to get away with avoiding him. I blame the media for it, in part. They've had access to the information on Waxman's ongoing correspondence just like we have but they just ignore it too.

I agree that he's one of the great Dems. I'm an admirer of his, and I think he deserves the chance to finally demand and receive some answers from the crooks in our government.

and indictments trickle out the populace will be demanding an impeachment. Let it come from the people, it won't stand a chance of being partisan politics, as usual.

Oh, and let the exposure of the misdeeds build right up to the 2008 elections. If I were in control that's what I'd do!

51. Revenge is instant gratification, that's why so many want it. There
was a story line in the movie "The Interpreter". It was some thing along the lines of if a family member was killed, the family had to mourn for 1 year. After that time, the murdered members family was permitted to tie the murderers hands behind his back and throw him in the river, and watch him drown. The point was most of the family members would save the victim, because revenge was the lazy mans vengeance (note to self: buy the movie for that illustration).

To allow the truth to come to the light, and let the people see it, without blinders, will set us ALL free, not just the choir.

Some people say a death by a 1000 cuts, I saw the harmless last straw.

66. I have heard the similar stories like this about Nixon
It was said that he had to resign to save what was left of his party and the government in general. The stench got to be rather alarming to some. Keeping impeachment off the table for that reason will mean the other side only has themselves to blame. I suspect there will be many resignations that will try cheat the many moral victories that could follow. They won't be able to resign the entire federal government or burn the national archives so this could be interesting even later on.
