Gore Keynotes S.F. Global Warming Summit
Nov. 10 - KGO - Former Vice President Al Gore and Bay Area leaders are putting their heads together at a summit to fight global warming in San Francisco today.

It's the first-ever summit of its kind in San Francisco. It's organized by the Bay Area Air Quality Management and they managed to attract a big name for their keynote speaker -- Al Gore.....

Here's just one example they'll hear of how one business can make a difference.
Carl Guardino, Silicon Valley Leadership Group: "Like the work of Hyperion Solutions in Santa Clara where their CEO Godfried Sullivan offers $5,000 dollars to any employee worldwide who buys a car that gets at least 45 miles to the gallon."
...
This summit, about protecting the environment, is taking place just as the environment in Washington is dramatically changing. California Senator Barbara Boxer will now take over as chairwoman of the Senate's environmental public works committee.

6. i think the $5k incentive is to help offset the cost of the car...
although bicycles help the environment a heck of a lot more than high mpg cars.

3. Environmental Architecture and other changes
Edited on Sat Nov-11-06 02:46 PM by RestoreGore
SO happy to see Mr. Gore doing this. How about solar panels on their buildings? Turning off office lights at night? Turning off computers at night? Setting thermostats accordingly so that the air conditioning/heat isn't on 24.7? You know how many tons of CO2 they could save just by doing this? And yes, employee incentives to be more environmentally aware are good too...how about businesses sponsoring tree planting outtings to get employees involved one on one with the Earth? My experience has been that the more you interact with nature, the more respect you have for it. Oh, and also, new buildings can be built to conform to environmentally aware designs to optimize savings both in capital and in greenhouse gas emissions.
