Downer denies relationship with US Democrats neglected

The Foreign Affairs Minister says Australia has not neglected its relationship with the United States Democratic Party.

Labor's foreign affairs spokesman Kevin Rudd says now that the Democrats have control of the US Congress, Australia has been caught short.

He says the Government does not have a decent working relationship with the Democrats.

"There's a danger in foreign policy when you put all your eggs in one political basket," he said.

"And that's what John Howard and Mr Downer have done with the Republicans in the US."
