U.K. minister criticizes U.S. military
LONDON - A British government minister criticized the U.S. military for failing to cooperate with inquests into the deaths of British soldiers allegedly killed by "friendly fire" in Iraq.

Constitutional Affairs Minister Harriet Harman said U.S. authorities' failure to send troops or experts as witnesses was "not acceptable."

"We have got an expectation that they should come, so that the bereaved relatives of the deceased servicemen can actually ask questions of what happened," she said in comments broadcast on British television's "GMTV Sunday" program.

"When they don't come that's not acceptable and we are prepared to say that's not acceptable."

Harman said she was seeking a meeting with senior U.S. officials to discuss the issue.

1. US 'must send inquest witnesses'
"If our service people have died in Iraq the very least we can do is make sure there is a proper inquest, so their families can understand the truth of the situation of how their loved ones died."

Oxfordshire assistant deputy coroner Andrew Walker refused to read out statements by US soldiers involved in the death of ITN journalist Terry Lloyd after they failed to attend his inquest in October.

Delivering a verdict of "unlawful killing", he asked the attorney general to call for the unnamed marines to be extradited to the UK.

3. Think we need some new young thinking Generals. I do not
see that going on soon. This is a top down group and it may be a great army but it sure needs to get up to speed on what is going on in the world. It is like all the old armies that won a battle so stick to what made a win. Things do change. In our own revolution we hardly fought as the Brits. did because we could not win and knew it. Some time just read a history of the German army. They made great changes for show and speed but their army really went to war with horses and mules. We got rid of ours and became really modern. It counted in the long run. Now if you can only get to a place on a mule I guess you better have some one that can ride it. A 50 year old war is not going to do it in plans for people who do not fight the same. Not that terrorist are new. They brought on WW1 and that was what 80 years ago and they are still at it. I think we need new thinking at West Point and DOD.
