Gunmen kill Iraqi cameraman working for private satellite channel
BAGHDAD — Gunmen in two sedans Monday shot and killed an Iraqi television cameraman in the northern city of Mosul, police said.

Mohammed Al Ban, a cameraman for Al Sharqiyah satellite channel, was killed about 9:30 a.m as he and his wife were leaving their home in Mousul, 360 kilometers (225 miles) northwest of Baghdad, according to police Brig. Abdul-Karim Ahmed Khlaf. Al Ban’s wife was injured.

Khalaf said the motive for the killing wasn’t known. The station had no immediate comment.

Last month, unidentified gunmen killed Leqaa Abdul Razzaq, an anchorwoman for the station, as she was travelling in south Baghad’s lawless Dora district.

With Al Ban’s death, at least 89 journalists have been killed in Iraq since hostilities began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count based on statistics kept by the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists.
