(NY Republican Senate Ldr) Bruno blames Bush for Republican losses
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Republican Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno blamed President Bush for the party's losses in New York in last Tuesday's election, saying voters were upset with the direction of the country.

Democrats swept all statewide offices and took three congressional seats from the GOP as part of a wave that gave Democrats control of both the U.S. House and Senate.

"The people were down on the leadership out of Washington, and frankly they've got good reason," said Bruno, the state Legislature's top Republican, citing the war in Iraq as just one factor.

Last week's vote across the country was "aimed directly at what people see as the lack of leadership and the right direction out of Washington, out of the White House specifically," he said.

In all fairness, I have to think that the NYS Republican Party, which picked Jeanine Pirro, John Faso, John Spencer and Chris Callaghan as their standard-bearers, and allowed folks like Sue Kelly and John Sweeney to try to hold on their Congressional seats might have to shoulder some of the blame as well...

2. I think the GOP Congress (corruption) was the biggest problem. Even bigger than Iraq.
Though the occupation in Iraq was a huge problem for the GOP.

As Wesley Clark said "It's because of Iraq".

4. Cheney's slightly less popular than colon cancer,
and the GOP is unable to hide the fact that * is a mean, stupid, disengaged loser.

5. Really? Well I blame the Republicans for the disaster that is George Bush
and for enabling his father and other Iran-Contra cronies, for deifying Ronald Reagan (who I think bears strong blame for many things going wrong now), and for their merciless pillorying of Al Gore, who would have made one of the finest presidents this country has ever known. Does that even things out at all?

6. Every pub supported *'s every idiotic musing in an effort to
convince us that bush was god-like and infallible. They only have themselves to blame. Greed and a lust for power brought them down. It's really unseemly for them to whine about it now.

They're the ones who voted for him. Twice. Shame on them!
