Inquiry into missing campaign fliers halted
Inquiry into missing campaign fliers halted

Associated Press
Nov. 14, 2006 12:00 AM

PHOENIX - A police investigation of a reported theft of Republican Party campaign mailers prepared for use in the governor's race has been shelved after an initial inquiry found no evidence of a crime.

State Republican Party officials reported to police on Oct. 26 that they suspected somebody stole two unmailed campaign fliers from a cache of 181,000 fliers in a locked storage container from the party's headquarters.

The Republicans contacted police after Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano's re-election campaign submitted one of the mailers as justification for a request for additional public funding to match what Napolitano's campaign says it believed was campaign spending by the Republicans. advertisement

Napolitano campaign officials said that one of the fliers was dropped off anonymously at Napolitano's headquarters and that campaign officials thought it was part of a bulk mailing sent to voters.

6. Well, campaign fliers are important
Now, $9 billion missing from the funds to rebuild Iraq? Mere pocket change. At least, it went into somebody's pocket and they weren't about to change that.

8. Yes, it's extraordinarily odd. It seems the Republicans called the cops
because they discovered a couple of these fliers at the office of Janet Napolitano, and claimed this was evidence her people had STOLEN them, since:
Republican officials said they decided against sending the mailers because a recent ruling by a state commission meant that Napolitano would have been entitled to matching funds.
The Democrats maintain they WERE mailed to them, as that's the only way they came into their possession.

It shows these right-wing idiots are so rabid, they'll try to make up absolute CRAP if it looks like something which can be sold as a charge against Democrats.

Stunningly small and stupid! They CALLED THE ####ing COPS! Unbelievable.

4. Don't tell my ex-boss, but I once took an empty manilla file folder home with me
and I still haven't returned it.

He'd probably call the cops, because he's a Republicker!

5. sounds like a set up
Edited on Tue Nov-14-06 08:42 AM by Evergreen Emerald
had they complained about 180,000 filers stolen, now that would be something to report to police. Two? They could have miscounted. Or perhaps a couple of aids needed reading material in the bathroom. Or, they wanted to set up the opposing democrat, without too much loss to them--and dropped them off at the democratic headquarters.

This is just a weird story.

7. They didn't count. Somebody snitched, and Pukie went for the throat
it was a setup--maybe they even "stole" the flyers themselves and "dropped them off" planning on busting Napolitano from the beginning. That's Rove Politics 101.

9. Political campaign fliers and pamphlets are union printed
Union printers are overwhelmingly Democrats. Mystery solved!
