USA Today/Gallup poll: Democrats Have Upper Hand for the Moment
GALLUP NEWS SERVICE
November 14, 2006

PRINCETON, NJ -- A new USA Today/Gallup poll reflects very positive positioning for the
Democrats in the minds of the American public -- at least for the moment. Americans are
almost twice as likely to have a favorable opinion of the Democrats as they do of Republicans,
and a strong majority says they want the democrats in Congress to have more influence over
the direction of the country than President Bush.

Additionally, Bush's approval rating, now at 33%, is just two points away from being the
lowest of his administration.

Question: Who do you want to have more influence over the direction the nation takes in the
next year -- ?

2006 Nov 9-12
Bush 31%
Democrats in Congress 61%
Both/Neither 6%
No Opinion 2%

2002 Jan 11-14
Bush 59%
Democrats in Congress 36%
Both/Neither 2%
No Opinion 3%

1. Did you catch the corporate media spin... "at least for the moment"
When Bush's approval ratings hit lows, the corporate media tells us he has 'hit bottom' as if predicting a better rating for Bush in the future. But the fact is that overall Bush's ratings continue to sink and no one knows when Bush ratings will find its lowest point. And neither does the corp media know that the national preference for Democrats will only last for a moment.

2. also, the MSM 'memory' thing seems to be clearing up
suddenly they can pull a poll from 2002 and compare that with a current poll. That side-by-side comparison 'thing' has been absent from any critical examination of the WH or Congress over the past few years, IMO.

7. Perceptive, yes.
"for the moment" is also supposed to imply that, this isn't gonna last. :eyes:

3. A 61% to 31% advantage is an "upper hand for the moment"
Well, I think I know where Foley was really getting his meth!

Makes me think of this morning, at 5:00, when the alarm went off and I heard NPR announce that today was the birthday of, and I swear I am NOT making this up, "Washington, D.C. resident Condoleeza Rice."

6. Let's be fair.
Foley wasn't getting meth. He was chasing children. You're thinking of Haggard.

Let's keep our right-wing scandals straight ... e-r-r-r-r ... correct!

:-)

8. Yep! My bad! For Foley it was booze as an excuse.
But I still want an explanation for "Washington, D.C. resident Condoleeza Rice." That's just weird.

10. Translation: let's get aggressive
with the agenda and with the press. When the lame ducks try to ram through some hideous peice of fascism, flood the ariwaves with statements like, "this is more of the same poor judgement that got us in the mess we're in".
