POSTED: 7:11 am EST November 14, 2006
UPDATED: 8:19 am EST November 14, 2006

CLEVELAND -- All checkpoints at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport are back open after a bag tested positive for a potential explosive Tuesday morning.

Officials said that the baggage room was also shut down after the suspected explosive was detected at about 6:40 a.m. No explosives were found.

Some checkpoints were temporarily shut down, but all of them have reopened.

All outbound Continental flights will be delayed by about 40 minutes.

2. Potential explosives?
So some kid who had a pack of firecrackers in his bag at some point, can shut down an airport?

4. Last time this happened
I think it turned out that the guy worked at a quarry and it was simple dust contamination from the exposives which were used at the site.

5. Heart medicines sometimes contain nitroglycerin....
and can give a false positive result. So if sometone takes their heart pill then touches their bag, it could show up in a security screening.

7. The bag might have held shampoo or Gatorade at one time.
Or perhaps a tube of hair gel.

8. it's nice to know that the explosive materials detectors actually indicate positive
once in a while. i've had so much gear tested (while nervously waiting) and never the slightest hint that the machine was even capable of giving anything but a negative reading.
