Abramoff Reports to Prison ...Testimony on Democratic Senators
Abramoff Reports to Prison Tomorrow; Offers Testimony on Democratic Senators
November 14, 2006 4:13 PM

Brian Ross and Rhonda Schwartz Report:

Convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff is scheduled to report to federal prison tomorrow, over the objections of federal prosecutors who say they still need his help to pursue leads on officials he allegedly bribed. Sources close to the investigation say Abramoff has provided information on his dealings with and campaign contributions and gifts to "dozens of members of Congress and staff," including what Abramoff has reportedly described as "six to eight seriously corrupt Democratic senators."

The sources say Abramoff was about to provide information about Bush administration officials, including Karl Rove, "accepting things of value" from Abramoff.

Abramoff has been meeting almost daily in secret locations around Washington with Justice Department investigators who are examining thousands of e-mails and documents, according to sources close to the investigation. The convicted lobbyist was spotted in downtown Washington, D.C., yesterday, carrying a computer laptop case.

24. Oh, I hope so...
If Holy Joe did have dealings with Jack, he'll be knocked into damage control mode and will have to play nice with the Dems in order to preserve his status. Bad idea to rock the political boat if you've got skeletons in your closet...

39. we don't even know if this is true yet. abramoff hated the dems
why the hell would he lobby any of them.

let the facts come out before we believe this liar/crook

my guess is he'll say anything to implicate dems

5. guess we will have to wait and see
It doesn't sound true to me they don't know if it is 6 or 8? Everything I have heard through out this thing has been it is a Repub thing only...and repubs tried hard to say it was a Dem thing....ya think the goods would have handed over to them to help with that claim. Also all the emails posted on line ...pretty much said they where out to destroy the dems period I just don't see Abramhoff tossing money at Dems....then there is timing...just a weee late ya think?

ehh its always possible ..if it does turn out to be true I hope we take no crap prove the wave brought change and this stuff will not be tolerated.

11. I call BULLSHIT on this......
Do you think Abramoff wouldn't have spoken up about this BEFORE the election? When all the repugs were going down and they were saying it was a bipartisan scandal, no dem names were mentioned.

Do you think the Rove slime machine and the media wouldn't have exploited this information? It would be blasting away 24/7 on Fox news.

12. I do, too. How convenient it would be to remove 6-8 Democratic senators after
the election. If this were true, Abramoff would have named these 6-8 senators right off the bat, before even discussing the Republicans. And all of a sudden, after the Republicans lose the majority, he suddenly brings this up.

If he really had something on them, he would have come out with it before the election. Plus, their goal was to defund the Democrats, not share the booty.

Surely the dem leadership knows how important that would be. And if Abramoff is blowing smoke, there should be charges that apply to his false accusations.

I'm to believe that not one of the corrupt Republicans would know there were corrupt Dems and say nothing? Nothing? Named not one name? One? Ever?

6-8 is a huge amount of senators -- more than all the Republicans caught in this. This is crap. No way.

ABC: Abramoff set to turn in Dem senators, Rove

The Abramoff investigation continues, according to ABC News, with the convicted former lobbyist set to provide information about several Democratic senators and presidential adviser Karl Rove.

However, Abramoff's move to prison tomorrow is likely to slow investigator's access to his information.

Relevant excerpt from the ABC story follows.
#

Sources close to the investigation say Abramoff has provided information on his dealings with and campaign contributions and gifts to "dozens of members of Congress and staff," including what Abramoff has reportedly described as "six to eight seriously corrupt Democratic senators."

The sources say Abramoff was about to provide information about Bush administration officials, including Karl Rove, "accepting things of value" from Abramoff.

Rove has denied any wrongdoing in his dealings with Abramoff. But the lobbyist visited the White House at least seven times, according to Secret Service logs obtained by Judicial Watch.

Senate couldn't be messed up, do ya think?

Regardless, if there are dirty dems, hang 'em.

And please, maybe Fitz won't be KKKarl's demise. Maybe it'll be Jack.

33. If Dems are guilty, then they should be exposed. Sorry, the rules are the same.
No corruption! None! Doesn't matter which party!

I understand that there are tactical issues, potentially open seats that may be vulnerable to GOP replacements, etc., but we've got to stop this corruption.

Wherever it leads, non-partisan, bring an end to it!

I know that we are all human and that there will never be AN END to corruption, but we need to reduce it and keep focusing on reducing it. There's just no other way.

Hypocrisy, thy name is not Democrat!

37. If they are indicted, toss 'em
That should be mandatory. Speaker Pelosi's reform initiative should include mandatory resignation of a Congressional seat, whether Senate or House, upon an indictment. The staff should be barred from serving again for a minimum of 5 years. I would also like to see Speaker Pelosi's (I can never get tired of saying that:D )also banning staff/members from becoming lobbyists for a minimum of 3 years, and tying the percentage of Congressional pay raises to raising the minimum wage the same percentage. This should also cover such little 'perks' as increases in pension benefits - if Congress gets 'em, minimum wage should be adjusted upwards.
