Poll gives Chavez over twice support of vote rival

Tue Nov 14, 2006 6:13pm ET163

CARACAS, Venezuela (Reuters) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has more than twice the support of his challenger as he seeks a big re-election win on December 3, a poll said on Tuesday.

The Center for Political and Social Studies, a Spanish group that commissioned a poll by Madrid's Complutense University, pegged support for Chavez at 57.8 percent.

His rival, Manuel Rosales, won only 26.9 percent backing, according the survey of 2,964 people taken between October 26 and November 1 and the margin of error was 2.4 percentage points.

The result is in line with most other surveys that have given Chavez a lead of between 18 and 35 points. Chavez has maintained his popularity by spending his country's oil income on schools and clinics for the country's long-neglected poor.

11. Yeah, but, "according to his critics, he is increasingly authoritarian"--AP, NYT,
WSJ, NBC, ABC, CNN, CBS, LAT, Faux New, Mud (Clear) Channel, Timenewseekusnews&worldreport......

Cardinal Castillo Lara said so! And HE got kick out of the Vatican finance office in the fascist banking scandals of the '80s, so HE knows something about "authoritarianism"!

13. That's the problem with democracy
If everyone actually gets a vote, the capitalist-globalist greedy fucks can't get their way :)

The next step is to figure out how to make that work in the US :freak:
