Bush doesn't fear attack on Iran: Israeli envoy

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - President Bush will not hesitate to use military force against Iran if other options fail, Israel's outgoing ambassador to the United States said in an interview published on Wednesday.

"I know President Bush well ... From his standpoint, a nuclear Iran, ayatollahs with a bomb, is unacceptable," Danny Ayalon told Israel's Ma'ariv newspaper.

"I have been privileged to know him well, he will not hesitate to go all the way if there is no choice."

Concern over Iran's atomic ambitions figured prominently in talks in Washington this week between Bush and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

to illegally attack and/or invade sovereign nations.

Just my two cents.

4. Even if Bush says go
I have a feeling the generals will say no.

Every war game simulation run by the Pentagon in an attack on Iran ended badly for the U.S. and Israel according to reports.

2. Of course Bush doesn't fear it
He won't be anywhere near the fallout of an attack on Iran.

However, Israel should fear it considering their close proximity.

3. Well, then he can send Laura, Babs, and the twins over to do
the bombing.

7. The initial bombing is not what most worries me
It is the decades that come after that. We can put up a nice "Mission Accomplished" sign after we take out (or thing we take out) the nuclear facilities.

But that will thoroughly inflame the arab world. The US now has LOTS of middle east targets thanks to the misguided "war on terror." And time is on the side of any enemy that wants to slowly bleed us and bankrupt us.

The aftermath of bombing Iran would be a disaster. Laura, Babs, and the twins can do a couple tours of duty in Iraq after Iran is bombed. Now THAT would be justice.

5. I Don't Fear It Either
Because the new congress is not going to let him do it. Ergo, nothing to fear.

9. Bush's position is that he ALREADY holds power
to bomb Iran under the original authorization that allowed the US to initiate hostilities against Afghanistan. Many do not agree with this position but, regardless, Bush may authorize bombing Iran unilaterally without consulting Congress.

I have written my Republican Senators and Congressman re this, and have gotten startling replies. (They would go along with whatever the Decider thinks is right).

I would recommend going back to being scared.

12. No Thank You
You and i both know two things:
First, the authorization for use of force does not extend to Iran. The language is explicit and clear, no matter what the convervobots say.

Secondly, the newly installed Congress knows fully that the takeover of both houses was rooted in dissatisfaction over the handling of the Iraq situation. They are not going to get their hands any dirtier in this regard.

You worry for both of us. Me, i'll be over here not worrying.

8. So Iran is the "crazy bad guy" but who is doing
all threatening? If Iran were to strike Israel with nukes or conventional weapons they would be a sheet of glass in days. Now to listen to pro-Israel pundits of both sides this will not stop them because Allah says so, but explain then why were the Iranian volunteers who were going to Lebanon last summer stopped and detained by the Iranian government. If Iran were so bent on this they had the perfect opportunity then so why did they not do it?

13. Iran won't nuke Israel directly...
...it's not their style. They'll just give nuclear material to Hezbollah or other groups and claim that they weren't connected in any way.

25. Do you think they honestly care?
Hizb'allah wouldn't have as much a problem as Hamas, but given Hamas followers willingness to martyr themselves, the fact they would martyr others, would likely not bother them.

10. on CSPAN the other day
i think Pearl or Clark was on... And nay strike against Iran would end up within 2 to 3 days a drop of 20% world wide production of OIL. That simple. We strike Iran, Iran Strikes EVERY THING in the Persian Gulf region (so 20% of world crude production).. Of course the BFEE would want a war with Iran.. it ALL about the OIL....

What a wonderful meeting we had between the man that lost the war in Lebanon and failed to free the hostages, and the man that got our military stuck in the quagmire in Iraq. Shall we say Loser Men?

21. Bush gives go-ahead for building 'Bush Center' in Israel
<snip>

"United States President George Bush was informed on Tuesday of an initiative to establish a center under his name in Israel, as a sign of gratitude for his support for the country and its security.

Outgoing Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Daniel Ayalon asked Bush for the go-ahead to establish such a center during a farewell meeting with the president and his deputy, Dick Cheney.

Bush told Ayalon that "freedom" would be a worthy subject for the center to focus on.

Ayalon has yet to approach donors with a request to finance the establishment of the "Bush Center" in Israel, but does not expect to encounter difficulties when it comes to raising the funds."
