US prepared 'in principle' for Iraq talks with Iran
WASHINGTON (AFP) - A senior State Department official who oversees Iraq policy said the United States was ready "in principle" for direct talks with Iran on Tehran's role in the US-occupied country.

The remarks by David Satterfield, senior advisor to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, came just two days after Washington said it had shelved a previous bid for such talks with Iran, and as his superiors expressed scepticism such a dialogue could work.

"With respect to Iran, we are prepared, in principle, to discuss Iranian activities in Iraq," Satterfield, who also serves as coordinator for Iraq, told a Senate committee.

"The timing of such a direct dialogue is one we still have under review."

"We are prepared, in principle, for a direct dialogue with Iran. The timing of that dialogue is one that we are considering," Satterfield told the Senate Armed Services Committee.

1. Now, if Iraq is truly sovereign, as the WH proclaims
then why do we have to agree and decide 'whether or not the talks will work'?

If Iraq is sovereign, then shouldn't they be able to choose who they're going to talk to?

Just askin'.

5. The Iraqi government already 'talks' to the Iranian government...
since quite some time, actually. Why would the Shi-te majority of Iraq never 'talk' to the Shi-ite majority of Iran, since the Iranian allies in Iraq were elected not very long ago? Heck, they even had official meetings in Tehran...

Methinks the Corporate RW-Media R just a bunch of ignoramus, or they're really busy spreading confusion about everything Iraq since their owners 'lost' the official elections... all the while, people of both countries (Iraq & US) continue to pay the price of their greed with their lives...

And the chimperor who lied to the world to start this entirely non-absolutely necessary quagmire still flies to five-stars resorts...
