Travelocity outsourcing 55 jobs to India
Posted on Wed, Nov. 15, 2006
By TREBOR BANSTETTER
Star-Telegram Staff Writer

The internet travel firm Travelocity plans to outsource 55 North Texas jobs to a contractor based in India, company officials confirmed Wednesday.

Southlake-based Travelocity, a unit of Sabre Holdings, told employees last week that it will shift sales jobs connected to World Choice Travel, a hotel room consolidation and distribution business, to WNS, an Indian global outsourcing firm. The jobs will begin migrating to WNS in mid-January, and the outsourcing is expected to be completed by March.

Currently, World Choice Travel has about 100 employees. Travelocity has about 5,000 employees worldwide. The firm bought World Choice Travel in 2003 for about $50 million.

In a Nov. 9 letter, Travelocity executives told affected employees that there will be opportunities for some to shift to other jobs within the company, mostly at Travelocity Business, which has been growing substantially. Those who don’t find other jobs will receive a severance package.
