Bush Resubmits Six U.S. Appellate Court Nominees to Senate (including Haynes-- torture apologist)
Bush Resubmits Six U.S. Appellate Court Nominees to Senate

By James Rowley

Nov. 15 (Bloomberg)
-- President George W. Bush resubmitted six appellate-court nominees, who earlier drew objections from Democrats, for Senate consideration in the waning days of the Republican majority.

The Senate returned the six appeals-court nominees to the president in late September when Congress recessed to campaign for midterm elections. The Democrats' takeover of the Senate in January by a 51-49 majority means they will have the power to block the nominees' confirmation.

Bush's decision to resubmit the six nominees was criticized by Vermont Democrat Patrick Leahy, who will chair the Judiciary Committee in the Democratic-controlled Senate. "The president is choosing partisanship over progress and division over unity," Leahy said in a statement. "The signal the president is sending by renominating these controversial candidates is regrettable."

The resubmitted nominees include William J. Haynes II, the Defense Department's general counsel who helped devise military interrogation policies for suspected terrorists. Democrats and some Republicans argue the interrogation policy encouraged abuse of prisoners seized in Iraq and Afghanistan.

11. In Jan 06 L voted for cloture in the Senate then voted against Alito
So he didn't upset any Republicans because the cloture vote closed off filibuster, but L still got to say he voted against the Alito nomination

Lieberman to Vote Against Alito Supreme Court Nomination
Senator cites concerns nominee would diminish individual liberties

... Every time I have voted to confirm a nominee to the United States Supreme Court as I have with Justices Souter, Breyer, Ginsberg, and Roberts – two appointed by Republican presidents, two appointed by a Democratic president – I did so knowing as we all do that I was taking a risk because I could never know exactly how the particular Justice would rule on the many cases that would come before him or her in a lifetime on the bench. But I ultimately concluded based on their records and their testimony that those four Justices would more likely than not uphold the unique responsibility the Supreme Court has as the most important guardian of the freedom, opportunity, and privacy for every single American. Unfortunately, I have not been able to reach the same conclusion about Judge Alito, and so I will respectfully vote no on his nomination.

15. well, could be worse...
who knows, maybe he'll be ok on some things like judges, we'll just have to hope so

I'm done with bitching about lieberman, I'm just going to live with it and move on, don't like what he did, but, whatever...
if he had not run, lamont would have won, and lieberman could have had some kinda nice job, maybe get him on that iraq study group or some such, he'd have been well positioned for '08, but no, he had to run. fine. but I don't want to see him on any more presidential tickets that's for sure.

18. I'm not done bitching about him.
Alito was another case of his selling our bullets to the enemy but still wanting credit for yelling "Bang!"

We have to live with him, but he is on double-secret probation until he proves me wrong about distrusting him.

He really should remove them from the holsters first.

Bi-partisanship begins in January.

17. Actually, he's stamping his little feet
Next, holding his breath until he turns blue.

The Senate is set to adjourn Dec. 15. I'm guessing this latest batch of yahoos can't even get their FBI vetting done by then. You know nothing's going to happen the rest of this week or next week (Thanksgiving), and that leaves three weeks before the 15th. Mondays and Fridays are off the schedule, so that's nine legislative days. God may have created the heavens and the earth in six days, but the Senate works at a decidedly slower pace.

These nominations are dead even prior to arrival; but they signal to Chimpy's base that he's still as stubborn and closed-minded as ever. He looked shocked, humbled and contrite for all of about 35 seconds last week, but this week he's back, arrogant and delusional as ever.

12. Cool. Let's torture them to find out what their real opinions are.
Judgeship candidates never tell the truth about anything under normal interrogation.

We should ask about their habitual satanic practices.
