Iraq minister says some hostages tortured, killed
BAGHDAD, Nov 16 (Reuters) - Kidnappers who seized dozens of men from a ministry building in Baghdad on Tuesday tortured and killed some of their hostages, the Minister for Higher Education said on Thursday, citing the testimony of freed hostages.

"There are a number of people who were killed, they are employees and guards," Minister Abd Dhiab told Reuters, adding that around 70 hostages had been released out of around 150 staff and visitors originally seized by men in police uniforms.

"According to the people released, they were killed by torture," Dhiab said, declining to say how many had been killed.

3. Iraq: Kidnapees Tortured And Killed, Minister Says
Some of the men kidnapped from a ministry building in Baghdad have been tortured and killed, Iraq's minister for higher education said on Thursday, contradicting earlier reports that most had been freed.

Dhiab has said he will suspend co-operation with the government until the remaining hostages are released. In an interview with the BBC, he said he was "very much concerned" for the remaining captives' well-being.

He had earlier said some 70 of the estimated 150 hostages seized in a daring daylight raid by gunmen wearing police uniforms have been freed. The Iraqi prime minister's office says of 40 hostages, no more than five were still being held.
