Former Iraqi Prime Minister Allawi fears country nearing precipice
Former Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi said Thursday that he fears his country — wracked by sectarian bloodshed and terrorism — is nearing a precipice.

"It's really quite alarming and dangerous, where Iraq is now. It's quite frightening," Allawi said. "Iraq is slipping continuously into a chaotic level of violence.

"To be honest, this is not something that I could have imagined when we fought Saddam (Hussein's) regime. I would never have imagined that Iraq would be in the state it's in now."

In 2004, Allawi became prime minister in the first post-Saddam government. The following year, he was routed in elections by religious Shiite parties. Allawi is a secular Shiite who heads a coalition of Sunni, Shiite and Kurdish moderates.

1. What did they think would happen
when Shiite militia leaders can tell the primeminister to remove US roadblocks, and he does so, when looking for a kidnapped US soldier?

Give the Kurds all the tanks and planes they want and let them have at...

3. Ah, that Allawi. Always a day late and a dollar (or a few million)
short.

4. I suppose if you've just fallen off a cliff, you're "near" the precipice . . .

5. Allawi didn't know because he DIDN'T LIVE IN IRAQ
Allawi lived in exile for almost 30 freaking years before returning after the war.

6. Considering Allawi spent two years recovering from Saddam
having his head split open with an ax there is a good reason for that.

I remember seeing two years ago the pictures of Allawi's head back in the 70s after Saddam tried to have him killed and it was really ugly.

7. I guess that explains Allawi's stupidity
In not knowing 30 years of Saddam's rule would cause friction and deep resentment between the Sunnis and Shias.

8. CIA asset. Washington puppet. Promoter of the WMDs-in-45-minutes claim to British intelligence.
