McCain calls for common sense in GOP (he will lead the party's rebirth)
By LIZ SIDOTI, Associated Press Writer 4 minutes ago

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061116/ap_on_el_pr/mccain2008

WASHINGTON - On the heels of devastating GOP losses, Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record) called on the Republican Party to return to its common-sense conservatism — and implicitly cast himself as the one who can lead the party's rebirth.

"We lost our principles and our majority. And there is no way to recover our majority without recovering our principles first," the Arizona Republican said Thursday in the first of two speeches that could set the tone for a potential presidential campaign.

On the same day he launched a presidential exploratory committee, McCain said voters felt that Republicans valued their incumbency over their beliefs on such conservative standards as limited and efficient government — and he urged a return to those tenets.

"Americans had elected us to change government, and they rejected us because they believed government had changed us," the four-term senator said. "We must spend the next two years reacquainting the public and ourselves with the reason we came to office in the first place: to serve a cause greater than our self-interest."

11. That's was when McCain thought having Karl Rove for his '08 run was a good idea
Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 06:03 PM by emulatorloo
Now that the lustre is off of Rove, McCain has switched gears again. "I'll say anything to convince people I have integrity."

10. "to serve a cause greater than our self-interest." McCain just doesn't *get* Republicans.
Or maybe he's just saying that so that he can get his turn to snout up the public trough. In which case he does get Republicans.

16. Watch out because the media love McCain -- remember 2000?

They talked Gore down and talked McCain and Bush** up. If you need a referesher course, check out

Here's a quote from Tuesday's Daily Howler (NOTE: when you click the link, you get only today's column. On the upper left, click "2006 archives" to go to earlier columns)

"IT’S TIME FOR TIM TO GO: Maybe they should just start calling the program Meet the Press with Saints John and Joe. At the very least, Tim Russert should hold up a newspaper headline at the start of each show so we’ll know we aren’t watching a rerun. Could anything be duller—or more pointless—than watching Russert ask John McCain, for the ten millionth time, if he’s running for president yet? And then, after that, his next segment: Joe Lieberman! Voters had just delivered a serious rebuke to the war in Iraq—and Tim drags out the two parties’ biggest war supporters! Is Russert booking this program from Mars? Total tedium, thy name is Tim Russert!

It would have been fascinating to see some newly elected Dem senators—Claire McCaskill, so visibly thrilled with her win; Jon Tester, so startling an average-man solon; Sherrod Brown, such a new kind of Democrat; Jim Webb, so right on Iraq, in so much detail, all the way back in September 02. But no—Tim had to drag out the tired old types who make Jack Welch, his billionaire paramour, smile. On Meet the Press, you don’t get to hear people like Webb, who were right. You’re condemned to hear people like Joe, who were wrong. In fact, you’re condemned to hear them again and again. Groundhog Day might be the best name for this laughable, used-up old program."

23. McCain is reliving a nightmare..
In his state of mind, the torture of the pretense of another run
is tantamount to burnout. He is aware going in, he is the sacrificial
lamb and will be replaced at the last moment by a "chosen" candidate.

one psychotic break coming up..

24. McCain will bomb the shit out of Iraq and other countries
Edited on Fri Nov-17-06 06:13 AM by teryang
he's programmed for it. he believes we won the war in vietnam but the liberals and defeatists at home caused a political defeat. This notion is similar to that of Hitler's and other storm troopers after their loss in WWI.

Worst of all, McCain has an uncontrollable temper and needs anger management therapy. McCain is a military catastrophe looking for a time to happen. He is truly a tragic figure who needs to be kept off the world stage.

25. Republicans have already proven that they don't have principles.
To a republican, principles are nothing but the smoke they blow up voters' asses before they screw them.

The republican party is the big government, borrow and spend party, and republican "common sense conservatism" means selling your government, your country, and your people to the highest bidder.

Americans have had enough of republican lies and corruption, and we're not buying any more of the deadly snake oil McCain is trying to sell us.
