Ex-Aide Sentenced in Online Sex Case
BARTOW, Fla. (AP) - A 56-year-old former Homeland Security press aide was sentenced Friday to five years in prison after he pleaded no contest to sending sexually explicit Internet messages to someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl.

Brian Doyle, who resigned shortly after his April 4 arrest, also will have to serve 10 years of probation and register as a sex offender.

"I am profoundly sorry for everything. How I feel inside can't be described," Doyle told Circuit Judge J. Dale Durrance.

Doyle was immediately taken into custody.

The April arrest of Doyle, who had access to sensitive Homeland Security information, raised doubts about the agency's ability to ensure the security credentials of its own people.

Doyle pleaded no contest in September to seven counts of using a computer to seduce a child and 16 counts of transmitting harmful material to a minor.

2. What was he thinking?

He chatted with this UC from his Homeland Security office phone on several occasions.

He deserves to be punished for sheer stupidity if nothing else.

3. So, if he gets 5 years, what's Foley gonna get?
Their crimes are very similar, only the gender is changed. I do have to say that I don't get the sex crime sentencing thing. Here's a guy who goes to prison for five years for sending 'naughty emails' (in the words of Tony Snowjob), even though apparently he doesn't try to actually have contact with his pen pal. But if a guy forces himself on a woman, there is something like a 4% chance of him doing any time. I have read of so many sleaze bags getting off scott free, that I have a hard time reconciling the disparity in sentencing.

4. How WE feel inside can't be described, reading about this Dept. of Homeland Security
wizard trying to sneak up on a 14 year old and take advantage of her youth.

Sheriff: Suspect chatted online with detective posing as teen girl

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A Department of Homeland Security official was arrested Tuesday night on charges of using his computer to seduce a child after he allegedly struck up sexually explicit conversations with a detective posing as a 14-year-old girl, authorities said.

Brian J. Doyle, 55, is charged with seven counts of use of a computer to seduce a child and 16 counts of transmission of harmful material to a minor, according to the Polk County, Florida, Sheriff's Office.

Doyle, a deputy press secretary, will be placed on administrative leave, although it's unclear if it he will be paid, a department official said.

In interviews with police, Doyle confessed and has agreed to waive extradition to Florida from Maryland, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said. (Watch deputies take Doyle away in cuffs -- 3:18)

The clip still works, you can see him performing the haunting "Perp Walk." Magnificent.

5. When the police first started doing that,
I was afraid some court would rule it as entrapment. Glad they get convicted easily.
