No future for Iraq if sectarianism rules, Rice says
HANOI (Reuters) - Iraqis "don't have a future" if they give in to the sectarian tensions tearing at their society, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Saturday.

"They (only) have one future and that is a future together. They don't have a future if they try to stay apart," Rice said in a speech on the sidelines of an Asia Pacific summit.

Iraq has been riven by sectarian violence for months and its prime minister, Nuri al-Maliki, has been unable to disband militias and death squads who appear to operate with impunity.

While acknowledging the bloodshed, Rice said she believed the Iraqis were headed toward a better future and disputed that the United States was stuck in a "quagmire."

"I don't mean to diminish the difficulties that we have in Iraq and that the Iraqi people have in Iraq," Rice said. "This is difficult going."

3. What? Are we going to nuke 'em all?
What the hell is wrong with this stupid woman?

The Iraqis most definitely have a future. What they want is a future without the US Army on their soil.

4. And that one statement sums up this administration's stupidity about ME issues.
They only had one goal, and the entire strategy was aimed at that: removing saddam from power.

They had no follow-up plan, save letting contracts to "friendly" private corporations.

When our troops entered, there were already special ops guarding the oil lines and platforms.

What does that tell you about the fucked up priorities of this myopic administration?

8. Talk is cheap . . .
. . . and so is she.

The problem is that we got our credibility vested in Iraq when we overthrew the government and sought to bring them the blessings of Democracy.

Remind me again, how were we planning to impose liberty?

Oxymorons everywhere.

9. everyone has a future. What is this "don't have a future" bit?
You can be happy, sad, mad, alive, dead, but there is a future. You can have a future together or apart. I don't understand this type talk except that it is to give pronouncements in sound bites.
