Secret Service agent hurt in mall shooting (2 others shot including shooter)
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15789808/

An off-duty Secret Service agent was shot after intervening in a fight in a shopping mall food court Saturday evening, and he returned fire, wounding the shooter, police said.

A third person was also shot in the melee, and all were hospitalized in stable condition late Saturday, said Officer Sara Schriver, an Anne Arundel County police spokeswoman.

The agent was at the Westfield Annapolis mall with his family shortly after 7 p.m. when he saw a group of men attacking another man, Schriver said.

“They all just started attacking one individual ... physically assaulting him, punching him,” she said.

The agent tried to break up the fight, and someone in the group drew a gun and started firing, she said.

1. Guns, guns, we need more guns!
If everybody at that Food Court had been armed, they could have shot everyone!

2. Why do I have the sneaking suspicion...
...that the guy who tried to shoot the Secret Service agent wasn't a licensed CCW holder? :eyes:

3. Maybe some people could start carrying several guns, to share
to share with the goody two shoes who won't carry guns, when the going gets tough at the malls.

Maybe several guns, a bag of rocks, and some of those 4th of July torpedoes would work. It's a full time job staying safe.

4. I think the security cameras should have guns attached to them.
Edited on Sun Nov-19-06 03:17 AM by valerief
Security guards watching the monitors could fire down on people remotely. And once bullets fly through the air, a sensor could release low-dose microwaves to paralyze the crowd. Those that don't die from gunshots or their heads exploding would be grateful to Big Busher for promoting homeland security via violence.

16. This happened in MARYLAND...
so it's almost certain that the only person at the mall who was legally armed was the Federal agent. Maryland gun laws are quite harsh.

5. I remember, back in the old days,
when it was a matter of honor to fight one-on-one. If you had to gang up on someone, it meant you were a "pussy."

And weapons? Same deal.

Something has gone drastically wrong.

7. In the days I'm thinking of
no one would have even THOUGHT of attacking someone who was disabled. Well, except for scum, and no one I knew would've had anything to do with that sort. Even the bastards I knew had SOME standards. Okay, not MANY, but...

10. I think this thread has a lot to share with the bar fight thread on the Lounge page.
There has been a change in our culture, and it's not a good one.

9. I used to go to that mall...
because it was near my in-laws' house. It was pretty nice, with upscale shops and vendors. What a shame.

13. I thought Secret Service agents were better shots
Gives me the shivers all those extra shots flying around the mall from the agent and the shooter.

The gun battle erupted at 7:15 p.m. Saturday in the food court of the Westfield Shoppingtown Annapolis mall, sending scores of shoppers racing for exits or diving under tables. The shooting broke out after the Secret Service agent spotted as many as eight young men assaulting another young man and intervened to try to stop the fighting, according to a preliminary police account.

Adams drew a handgun and fired, hitting the agent once in the leg, police said. The agent then drew his weapon, fired seven times and struck Adams twice in the abdomen, police said. The agent was with a family member, who was not injured.

The injuries to each man -- as well as to Tahzay L. Brown, a 16-year-old Annapolis High School student who was struck in the crossfire -- were not considered life-threatening.

Schriver said yesterday that it was unclear whether the bullet that hit Brown was fired by the agent or the teenager.

17. This was in Maryland,
so it's a safe bet that the shooters (except for the Federal agent) weren't carrying legally.

19. Hey, if you get between me and a Tickle Me Elmo
You have to be ready, as an American consumer now that 9/11 has changed everything, to defend (to the death if necessary) your ability to buy stuff as our president has ordered. Or do you want the terrorists to win?

In case it's needed: :sarcasm:
