Kidnappers 'seize Iraqi minister'

Gunmen have kidnapped Iraq's deputy health minister from his home
in Baghdad, Iraqi security sources say.

The circumstances are still unclear but reports say the minister,
Ammar al-Saffar, was abducted by men wearing military-style uniforms.

Mr Saffar is a member of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki's Dawa Party.

His reported kidnap comes amid a surge in abductions, including the
seizure of dozens of people from the education ministry this week.

BAGHDAD, Nov 20 (Reuters) - Gunmen attacked the convoy of an Iraqi deputy health
minister on Monday, killing two of his guards, but the minister was unhurt, he told Reuters.

Hakim al-Zamily was the second top health ministry official to be targeted in two days.
Another deputy health minister was seized from his home by men in uniform on Sunday.

"The convoy was blocked off by several cars and we were fired upon from within the cars
and the area," Zamily told Reuters. "Two of my guards were killed but we were able to fight
our way out and escape."

He said he was attacked very close to an area called Fadhil, where insurgent attacks are
frequent.
