Iraq 'not a disaster', says Howard
9.20am Monday November 20, 2006

The situation in Iraq is tougher than expected but is not a disaster, Prime Minister John Howard says.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair called the situation a disaster in an interview with Sir David Frost on al-Jazeera's new English-language channel.

"No, I don't accept that," Howard said. "It's been tougher than I expected."

1. What I'd like to know....
...is where these Stuart Smalley's (sorry Al) get their intelligence. Obviously, they have some mystical shaman-like oracle that can discern a secret source of positiveness that our lying eyes can't detect.

outside the green zone. This is the worst case of rose-colored glasses I've ever heard of.

4. Another gem is :- Howard and Downer still think the WMD are
going to be found some time soon.
It was Howard's political party that got us (Oz) involved in Vietnam.
They have never suggested that even that was a mistake.

21. I remember talk about him running for President a few years ago
And I was like "Hey, he's an Aussie!" but no, he's American born. I think it was during the Gropinator run back in 2002.

5. Lt. Kif Kroker: [as asteroids are flying by the bridge]
Edited on Sun Nov-19-06 06:09 PM by Xipe Totec
Kif: Do you remember that "course correction" you made, sir?

Zapp Brannigan: No.

Kif: Captain, may I have a word with you?

Captain Zapp Brannigan: No.

Kif: It's an emergency, sir.

Captain Zapp Brannigan: Come back when it's a catastrophe.

(a huge rumbling is heard)

Captain Zapp Brannigan: Oh, very well.

(Zapp Brannigan has just piloted the Titanic straight into the path of a black hole)

Captain Zapp Brannigan: Don't blame yourself, Kif. We were doomed from the start. I guess all that remains now is for the captain to go down with the ship.

Kif: That's surprisingly noble of you, sir.

Captain Zapp Brannigan: No, it's noble of you, Kif. As of now, you're in command. Congratulations, Captain.

(Zapp runs off)

But hey, keep on fooling yourself, Howie.

16. Perhaps Howard
would care to discuss whether or not the situation in Iraq is a disaster or not with an Iraqi citizen. When Mr. Howard's home has been reduced to rubble, his wife and children slaughtered, and he is reduced to poverty, he might then wish to compare notes again. It's infuriating to me that people living in safety and in some cases luxury, are able to casually proclaim that Iraq isn't as bad as it seems. I don't know how to find the photo, but there is one of a small girl, anguished, and covered with her family's blood, after their car had been fired upon.

Please, Mr. Howard, Mr. Bush, Mr. Blair, explain to that small child who lost her family, and whose family's blood is on her hands as she cries out in fear, explain to her how this war has not been a disaster. I am certain there are many, many widows, widowers, children, and friends of those disappeared, killed, or maimed in this illegal war of aggression who would disagree with you.

After, whenever that may be, this war is over, you can go back to your safe, comfortable lives. Your country will not lie in ruins, your family will not have lost many, many members, and you will never notice a change in your lifestyle. Sit down, then, and discuss with a citizen of Iraq how successful this whole thing has been, and how justified you were to bring about this horror upon them. Go ahead. I'd love to see it recorded. I'd love to see the world pass judgment on what this war has been.

30. When the shit hitting the fan splatters over enough voters
who erroneously think that this jerk is responsible for the prosperity.
The hard economic decisions were made back in the 80's by the Labor party.
We are now surfing the wave of dollars because of those decisions.
