Republicans plot to bring down Pelosi ... and Clinton with her
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/11/19/wus19.xml

Republican strategists plotting their party's comeback after it lost control of Congress have identified the "first lady" of Democrat politics as a key target in the 2008 White House campaign — even though she will not be running.

Senior party operatives told The Sunday Telegraph that they are already co-ordinating plans to attack Nancy Pelosi, the liberal Californian congresswoman and Speaker-in-waiting who suffered a damaging rebuff from her own party caucus last week.

The Republican strategy is not only to undermine Mrs Pelosi's control of the House but also to associate her in voters' minds with Senator Hillary Clinton, the frontrunner for the 2008 Democrat presidential nomination.

"Two years of Pelosi gives a good idea of what four years of Hillary will be like," said Tom DeLay, the Republican powerbroker who ran his party in the House before he was caught up in a lobbyist corruption scandal. "They are both committed liberals and we will make that clear to the American people."

(end snip)

I disagree that Pelosi had a "terrible week". I think that the media who still shill for Smirky wanted to paint it that way. There was a peaceful selection of house leaders last week. Nothing more. She was elected unanimously. That is incredibly good. Watch for not only the Rethugs to try to destroy Pelosi, but the media clowns too, who are talking about Pelosi's "bad week" over and over and over. They are still in KKKarl's pocket. This is what Smirky means about reaching out to democrats. He doesn't change.

And by the time she ACTUALLY BECOMES SPEAKER, they will be way back in the dust.

Which beltway reporters should understand because bitter leadership related fights (if not for the speaker job, then for others) happen oh, EVERY TWO YEARS. (Minor typo edit)

5. The good news is that both women are up to the job of dealing with the GOP
I think though, that we ought to stop referring to these women in familiar terms. We should always refer to "Speaker Pelosi" and "Senator Clinton". This is not because I am a fuddy, though I am, rather it is because underlying the GOP criticism for the political acts of these women, is a deeper contempt for them as women. These are the people who refer to national journalists as "reporterettes". These are the people who can't mention Helen Thomas without a personal remark about her appearance. These are the people who called Janet Reno "Jake". These are the people who lisp when speaking of Barney Frank. These are the people who would speak in ebonics when referring to Rangel or Jackson if they thought they could get away with it.

6. "Democrat politics"? And you let this panic you?
Somebody quotes DeLay at you, you say, "The indicted Tom DeLay? When's his trial? How much bail did he have to raise? Do you think they'll add to the charges now that Abramoff can't shut up?"

Nothing indicted loser DeLay says is worth discussing, so don't.

If indicted loser DeLay is not mentioned, ask "Is this another one of Karl Rove's brilliant plans?"

Do not, do not, do not discuss Hillary or Nancy with these pigs. They have no right to talk about either of them. Send them home to their little women.

14. too many democrats ran from the word "liberal" and allowed repubs to turn
it into a dirty word. for gosh sakes the mythical Jesus is the ultimate liberal!

now there are some democrats to be sure who do not run from the word liberal, (liber = free) but the "democrat" party has not taken a stand to defend the word and all that is valuable about it.

just like the "democrat" party may allow itself to be defined and described as the "democrat" party, a campaign now underway by the right wingers, fundies, and repubs of many stripes. will the dems allow this to happen to another valuable word, "democratic" party?

If I was the democratic party I would start a media campaign to rehabilitate liberal, and start with the Jesus character, then show other famous liberals and give a list of all the liberal things americans take for granted like SS, 40 hour week, etc. and so forth. There is a rather common letter going around, a letter to a working man or something similar, that lists all the things liberals have given us in the last 100 years. that is a good basis for the ad campaign.

Jesus = liberal, Satan = conservative. end of ad.

Pelosi and Clinton should tell the world they are liberals and proud of it (at least Pelosi can get away with this, not sure about Hillary).

16. They will destroy this country from within if given the chance.
Pelosi has done nothing yet in her position as Speaker. Yet they are announcing to the world that they are going to attack her and bring her down simply because she's a democrat. They want to undermine her control of the House. They have NO intention of working with democrats; they intend to obstruct anything and everything. Its a disgrace.

They will delightedly rip this country to shreds for political gain. That's about as unpatriotic as one can get.

It's disgusting. It's like letting pedophile priests pontificate on the "sanctity" of marriage.

words to that effect- If I hear one Democrat say, we're going to reach across the aisle,
and work in a bipartisan manner, I'll know we've lost, before we've begun.

If anything, the Democratic takeover of the House and Senate HAS to be with the intention
of cleaning up the existing corruption by virtue of exhaustive investigations. We cannot befriend
potential criminals who have cheated the American Taxpayers out of what is rightfully theirs.

Until then, the word 'bipartisanship' is the equal of any four letter uttered meaning "screw you".

It will be interesting to see which Democrats will fold like a bevy of cheap suits and reach across the aisle
to shake hands with the criminals.

Mrs Pelosi, 66, who is married to a multi-millionaire property investor

And why do we need to know this? Perhaps to make it look like she's a limousine liberal who rode to power on her husband's money?

50. They are seriously underestimating both women here.
I don't see the whole Majority leader thing to be that big of a rebuff of Pelosi, but more of a fear of the controversy that selecting Murtha to the position brings. The GOP tactic to trying to count her out after this vote is premature-she hasn't even formally become Speaker.

As far as Hillary goes, they've been using the same attacks since 1992, at least. Unless they have something new, the people are sick of hearing it.

55. For someone who is about to do some serious time..DeLey should shut up!
Every word he says should be held against him. When I think about how disgusting he is...I just want to :puke:. What a rotten piece of scum. And to think some people out there support this piece of shit. As disgusting as it sounds, I would pay big dollars to see Bubba make that bugman his bitch.

57. They targeted Pelosi in 2006
And what did it get them?

A Democrat controlled Congress.

Bring it on!

58. Kinda dangerous assumptions
I doubt Hillary will be the candidate, so let them waste their time. What a great spokesman, Tom DeLay. Hopefully, he will be pleasuring his cellmate by then.

62. Cry me a fucking river. You lost, we won--GET THE FUCK OVER IT.
Associating Hillary with Pelosi? Why, because they're both women who dare to speak truth to old, drooling white men in power? Way to go.

63. Did DeLay call us Liberals or Terrorists?
Edited on Mon Nov-20-06 02:00 PM by librechik
I can never tell with those people.

DeLay, the indicted, is still handing out political advice to those folks? And they are taking it?

What losers. DeLay can't even carry his own district in Texas. He ought to disappear in shame rather than remain in defacto leadership. The Pukkkes sure have things ass backwards.

65. If it weren't for the Corporate Media, they wouldn't be this bold...
No doubt the CM will accommodate the Repuke's plans to "bring down Pelosi and Clinton," but the sad fact remains: the Repukes have no more shelf life. Already on NPR this past weekend, I heard a "report" that says Pelosi is in trouble for the Majority Leader election, and that many moderate Repubs were replaced by conservative Dems in the 2006 election.

This, or course was NPR ("New Presstitutes for Republicans"), but if the Media did its job, the Repubs would now be looking for common ground rather than revenge as its congressional plan...
