U.S. troops blow up cars in Baghdad (security breach inside Green Zone?)

BAGHDAD, Iraq - U.S. troops blew up two cars Tuesday inside the heavily fortified Green Zone after dogs indicated explosives were inside the vehicles that were used in the motorcade of the parliament speaker, an adviser to parliament said.

In what could signal a major security breach, the explosives were found and detonated near the Convention Center, where parliament meets and government officials hold news conferences, Wissam al-Zubeidi said.

The armored cars were used as part of the convoy for Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, al-Zubeidi said. One of the vehicles was regularly used by al-Mashhadani's son. The speaker is a Sunni Muslim.

Well, all Sunni politicians specifically (but subject lines have limited size). It took a while but I finally heard that the minister who's resigning who runs the Ministry of Higher Education is Sunni and a member of the Iraqi Accord Front, which is fairly fundamentalist, i.e. the kind of guys given a ministry by Maliki as a bone for Sunni participation in government. So, a faction of the Interior Ministry on Sadr's side attacked it in retaliation for various bad deeds done to Shia. And so the civil war churns.
