AP: Democrat in N.M. House Race Concedes
Democrat in N.M. House Race Concedes

By TIM KORTE

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. Nov 21, 2006 (AP)— More than a week after Republican
Rep. Heather Wilson claimed a razor-thin election victory, her Democratic
challenger conceded Tuesday, saying a recount would cost too much and
there was no guarantee it would reverse the result.

Wilson won by 875 votes the final tally showed the five-term congresswoman
with 105,921 votes to 105,046 votes for Democrat Patricia Madrid, the state
attorney general.

The difference was less than one-half of 1 percent, which in some states
would have triggered an automatic recount, but New Mexico does not have
an automatic recount law.

Madrid could have requested a recount, but she would have had to pay for it,
and she estimated a districtwide recount could reach $300,000.

3. According to CNN it's a +30 pickup
BUT, there are still five undecided races, NC-08, FL-13, OH-02, OH-15, and TX-23.

5. Madrid
snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. This was a race we should have won.

Why don't the various national Dem organizations help out with the post election expenses of recounts in states like NM ? There were so many anomalies in the count here and many cases of obvious voter suppression... damn. There was no help from any of the other Dems who won here either. In fact it really seemed that Richardson went out of his way to distance himself from Madrid.

I just don't get it.
