THE Cole commission's terms of reference should be expanded immediately in the wake of revelations the Howard government gave advance warning to AWB about going to war in Iraq, Opposition Leader Kim Beazley has said.
Mr Beazley said that a newspaper report which claimed advice was given to AWB a year in advance to the rest of the world that Australia was going to war, lends weight to the opposition's argument that senior ministers including Foreign Minister Alexander Downer and former trade minister Mark Vaile should come under the scrutiny of the commission.

"John Howard was prepared to take the wheat board into his confidence a year before going to war, but not the Australian people," Mr Beazley said in Sydney today.
"That seems to be the substance of the story today.
