More Katrina Victims Are in Trailers
CHALMETTE, La. (AP) -

Cradling an 18-pound turkey, Hurricane Katrina victim Nancy Prattini hauled groceries from her minivan, preparing for her family's first Thanksgiving dinner in their cramped FEMA-issued trailer.

"It won't be the same, but nothing will be the same anymore," said Prattini, who is making dinner for 12 on Thursday.

Nearly 15 months after the hurricane struck, the number of Katrina victims who will be spending Thanksgiving in FEMA trailers this year will paradoxically be far higher - roughly three times greater - than it was last year.

The reason: Many people who were living with family members or staying in hotels at government expense last year have since moved out or been evicted. But they have been unable to return to their homes because they are still waiting for their houses to be repaired, their insurance to come through, or the water and electricity to be turned back on. Or they have yet to decide whether to rebuild at all.

More than 99,000 families in Louisiana and Mississippi are living in FEMA trailers, compared with about 34,000 last November, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

1. Meanwhile in Hope, Arkansas
Ten goddamn thousand of those trailers sit empty, rotting into the gravel at the airport. And they can't be sent into the areas where people need them because those areas are flood prone.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Reptiles who left you all to drown.

4. Beginning to wonder?
Bush cares about no one except himself. All the rest of us can go to hell as far as him and his crew are concerned.

5. I'm beginning to believe most of the leaders of this country
are devoid of hears or souls. Filling the void where these used to reside are bottomless pits of greed and selfishness.

6. I'm beginning to wonder about the heart and souls of
more than just the leaders. Look how many people have bypassed this thread - makes you wonder where the outrage is doesn't it.

I would like to think that it is scandal fatigue that has numbed us and that this board is not just this apathetic.

I pray that is the case. :(

7. This is a goddamn disgrace.
Why isn't there help for these people? If anyone wonders how this government could handle a crisis, just take a look at this. This is heartbreaking.

8. How long before they get kicked out of the trailers?
I just hope they'll be able to find homes when FEMA evicts them.
