Fresno to Stop Junking Homeless' Things
FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - When city workers tore down her hillside encampment, Charlene Clay lost her asthma medicine, sleeping bags and her only photos of her dead granddaughter.

The people living there weren't warned, she said. Within minutes, all that remained were the tire tracks of a dump truck, crumpled tents and a few stray belongings.

"All I can do now is close my eyes and remember what my granddaughter used to look like," said Clay, 48. "I couldn't get any medicine for a week."

The American Civil Liberties Union and the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights are suing the city the behalf of Clay and five others, claiming police and sanitation workers violated the rights of the homeless for the last three years by defining their property as trash and bulldozing their encampments.

This week, they won a major victory.

1. WTF are homeless supposed to do? Oh wait should we coin that
phrase as home deficient or something else stupid.

2. Some good news to give thanks for on this thanksgiving day.
"Persons cannot be punished because of their status," the judge said.

I hope that the higher courts don't turn this good news on end. If they don't, then perhaps it's the beginning of a long trip down the road named fairness.

3. Trash to one is treasure to another
Our society makes the judgement that poor does not equal well to do. Their homes(hovels, shacks, lean tos') are not worthy to stand. Their pittance of posessions of perhaps a better life or their only connection to family roots is not worth the bother to allow them to keep it. Medicine, memories, their little pile of clothes and pallets are nothing in the eyes of those who have plenty.
How can we call ourselves a civilized society if we pass judgement of who is worthy and who is not?
