BBC: Dollar Weakens
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/6179552.stm

"The dollar has plunged to its lowest level against the euro since April 2005 amid concerns for the US economy.
The euro surged to $1.30 against the dollar, with many other currencies following suit."

"Analysts have voiced concerns about the US economy after the White House downgraded its growth forecasts amid a sharp slowdown in the housing market."

1. What can Bush do? What can our corporate leaders do?
Tax cuts can only go so far.

2. it's not just the housing market.
it's the ever rising debt, severe job competition because our corporate leaders want ever cheaper labour, lack of investment in newer thechnologies like renewable energy and high speed internet, etc.

these make a possible very bad storm -- and more.

so we'll see -- i think a bumpy ride is ahead for two years more.

if the economy tanks we can always blame the Democrats and vote Republicans back into Congress.

On edit: Oh, Sorry, :sarcasm:

4. Comparison against the £ is as follows.
When I first started buying banjos on ebay from your side in Feb. 2002 exchange rate was
$ 1.42 : £ 1. Just checked and today it's $ 1.93 : £ 1. They had predicted a couple of months back it would cross $ 2 : £ 1.

10. Don't think so
but then I don't think it's a significant issue anyway - just an historic thing. Would be different if we were talking about gold ! I'm guessing it's reaching parity with the euro which would most concern your maladministration assuming they are infact taking any notice.

11. For the eleventythousandth time, this is good news for the US
Our goods cheaper over there (exports) and their goods more expensive here. This is good for US manufacturing and professional services.

15. Actually, it will probably stoke inflation since we buy so much from abroad
and don't make all that much here.

I also doubt that it will encourage a lot of manufacturing here since we'd have to become a banana republic before we can compete with the countries all our manufacturing left for, and that's not good.
