Canadian allegedly leading insurgency
Edited on Sun Nov-26-06 03:43 AM by ECH1969
A top U.S. military commander says the most disciplined, intense attacks from insurgency forces in Iraq to date are being masterminded by an Iraqi Canadian. Abu Abdul Rahman, who reportedly left Canada in 1995 after marrying an Iraqi woman, is now one of the leaders of a disciplined insurgency unlike anything the American troops have experienced in the past, the New York Times reported yesterday. snip.

A battle last week in the village of Turki, east of Baghdad, lasted for 40 hours of close combat, killing at least 72 insurgents and two American officers, the Times noted. "We hadn't seen anything like this in years," said Lt.-Col. Andrew Poppas of the 82nd Airborne Division.

Poppas singled out the leadership of Rahman and told the newspaper the Iraqi Canadian had been mentioned on jihadist websites as a future replacement for Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the Jordanian who once headed Al Qaeda in Iraq, a group known for its beheadings of foreigners.

There have been Canadians singled out in the past for their alleged involvement in Iraq — but the details of their cases differ from those mentioned by the military commander.

5. yes, indeed
getting people to stand and fight against the US forces takes a whole lot of doing. The US Army is not just a buncha folks walking around with guns in their hands. They are highly trained, highly qualified killers and you go up against them at your own peril, something insurgents know full well.

These guys (and gals) are tough. Of course, the U.S. official figures don't tell the whole story, just like in Nam. How many of those 72 were actually insurgents, and how many were just people too slow to get out of the way? Two US officers were lost. How many troopers were injured or wounded? How many of them are likely to die?

Truth is the first casualty of any war, including this one.

6. sure is....
in light of the war being illegal, perhaps the oversold body count of insurgents isn't such a good idea. some day, iraq will might sue us for every damn atubbed toe that occurred because of us, and it's gonna cost..

7. highly qualified killers and you go up against them at your own peril,
That's why they use IEDs or why Juba rules the streets

He who fights and runs away

Lives to fight another day

Those highly trained killers brains go splat just like a pumpkin when the IED goes off
