Officer in Bush Motorcade Accident Dies (Hawaii accident)
A motorcycle officer injured last week while escorting President Bush in the islands died Sunday, police said.

Steve Favela, 30, and two other officers crashed their cycles as the presidential motorcade was traveling across Hickam Air Force Base to meet troops for breakfast early Tuesday. The other officers were treated at The Queen's Medical Center and released.

Favela, an eight-year veteran of the Honolulu Police Department and father of four, had suffered internal injuries and had been listed in critical condition at the medical center.

Light rain had been falling on the partly cloudy morning, and some roads on the base were slick.

19. Congratulations -
- as you managed to turn a police officers accidental death on rain slicked pavement into a political statement on just the second post. I'm sure that this must be some kind of record.

My sympathies to his family.

22. Bush had this guy bugged prior to crash
Edited on Mon Nov-27-06 11:46 AM by whoever123
Bush probably had his thugs plan this crash very carefully to make it look like an accident. I understand he had intercepted one of this guy's phone calls in the so-called warantless wiretap program, and the guy had apparently said something CRITICAl of the administration in that phone call. That was enough to have him rubbed out, apparently. I guess we had better all be extra careful from now own. This guy's even worse than we thought. Well, on second thought, that's not possible.

14. It was a police officer, not a secret service agent
Police aren't supposed to die like that while in a motorcade. Not when there is no threat involved. My best to his wife and kids, I feel for them.

9. Please explain to me how an
accident involving secret service men is a "bush" bloodbath? Do you realize that this could happen to any agent with any President? Let's not lose our sense here and give up prayers for the fallen serviceman.

10. I know what you mean. But there seems to be a run of bad luck
lately for the Secret Service or those involved in Bush's protection or monitoring or whatever the hell it is they are doing.

I feel bad for Fevala's family.

33. Yes it sure does as this unfortunately isn't the first time lately. I
feel terrible for his family, as I would for anyone hurt in the line of duty. I'd like to read more about how this happened. Does anyone know what caused the accident?

17. Haven't you been paying attention?
This Bushit "president" is leaving a wake of blood and death in this world. Just because it doesn't affect you doesn't mean it's not affecting others. This trip is fraught with mishaps too. Bush's whole life is one enormous fuckup.
I said 'it sucks' in sympathy for the officer -but don't tell me to PRAY. What the hell has prayer done lately? Tell the mentally ill "president" that we should go to war in Iraq maybe.

Pray all you want but you might set some aside for the collaterally dead. If you stack those who have died for our elite's profit the pile of bodies would be mountainous.

You should use :sarcasm: when asking if a lone incident is what I term a bloodbath. Really. To be so simple and then to moralize and lecture me... ugh
Sorry, I'm just so fed up with this nonstop ignorant behavior from xtians.

34. Excuse me, I'm sorry you believe
that all christians are ignorant. I also was not moralizing or trying to. Irregardless of anyone's personal views of whoever is President, this was an accident. At least I assume so until I see any evidence otherwise.

25. I"m Sorry but this would never have happened with any president.
This guy is afraid to see anybody against him. The sad truth is, he more than likely ordered the motercade to drive 80 miles per hour. RIP Officer Favela.

In a separate incident, a fourth solo motorcycle officer crashed and injured his wrist when attempting a U-turn on loose gravel while escorting the president on Monday night. He was also treated and released.

16. What a shame that this officer died so Bush could do another
of his with the troops photo-ops!

I know it's probably protocol, but why the hell did dimson need a full freakin' motorcade to travel across the base? Did they really need the motorcycle outriders? The article mentions Bush stayed on the base overnight and was just travelling across it to go to his photo-op breakfast. And how the hell fast were they going that a trained motorcycle officer suffers fatal injuries?

That curse I think bounced right off dimson to those surrounding him.

24. Bush didn't stop
the motorcade continued on.

This despite the fact that he was in Hickam AFB, a relatively secure area.
He did deign to dispatch the royal medics with him though.

28. riding
is inherently a high risk activity. riding in the rain increases the risk rather dramatically, especially in light rain conditions but all riders accept that risk when they throw their legs over a bike.

Light rain (or early in any rain shower) displaces the oil and grease left on a road raising it up to the surface making the road significantly slippery. Until there is sufficient rainfall to wash away the oily residue, bikes should be ridden with extreme caution.

Are the deaths Bush's fault? no.

30. Just makes me question why they have to have the protocol
of the motorcycle outriders. I doubt they add that much to the security. Why can't they cancel the motorcycles when they know conditions to the cycles are dangerous to the riders at the speed the motorcades travels. I don't think the security of the motorcade suffers that much w/o them.

I'm not blaming Bush for this - just the protocol. And I don't even blame him for not stopping. I just think that he does do too damn many photo-ops with friendly crowds, especially loves those ones with the troops.

We all remember the pet-goat, and the stupid photo-ops with McCain in AZ and the Navy in CA during Katrina.

31. I agree
as a rider they should have been aware of the risks in the rain (and turning on loose gravel for the other m/c cop) and said so right up front.

However, most of the m/c cops I have met seem supremely confident (arrogant?) in their riding abilities (I imagine based upon the level of training that they receive) but in a fight between attitude and physics, you get three guesses which one always wins out.

29. A lot of questions if you ask me - plus the irony of it all
This really is a sad circustance for this officer and his family. There hasn't been much news released about this accident, so it is very curious to me at least. I'm not into tin-foil, but there seems to be complete silence about how this happened in the first place.

Plus, does anyone else find that fact that Bush gave the Officer a "Presidential Coin" to be a bit tasteless and insensitive, especially given the fact that the Officer's family had to practically beg for people to donate blood? Plus, I keep running Dickens through my mind - in A Tale of Two Cities he writes of the aristocracy flipantly paying the peasants spare change when they were run over by their carriages.
