Suicide bomb kills 2 Canadian troops, civilian in Kandahar

Associated Press
Published: Monday, November 27, 2006

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - A suicide car bomber attacked a convoy of foreign
troops in southern Afghanistan on Monday, killing two Canadian soldiers and an
Afghan civilian, local police said.

The attacker drove his car up to the convoy and detonated the bomb near a
gate into Kandahar city, said provincial police chief Ismatullah Alizai. Another
civilian was wounded.

Maj. Luke Knittig, a spokesman for NATO’s International Security Assistance Force,
confirmed that two ISAF soldiers were killed. He didn’t release their nationalities.

He said the soldiers had been helping reconstruction projects outside Kandahar
in areas that have been the scene of heavy clashes over the last several months.

1. Fighting in Afghanistan claims 2 NATO soldiers
<snip>

"Two NATO soldiers were killed and another was wounded during combat in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday, NATO's International Security Assistance Force said.

The deaths occurred in Logar province's Puli Alam district, when a military vehicle struck a roadside bomb. An interpreter was also wounded.

The nationalities of the soldiers were not released.

On Monday, two Canadian soldiers died when a suicide bomber rammed his car into their convoy in the southern city of Kandahar.

The report of the latest casualties came as Afghanistan takes center stage at the NATO summit in Latvia. NATO leaders at a summit in Riga were expected to declare on Wednesday their determination on Wednesday to prevail over the Taliban."
