Pryce declared winner by 1,054-vote margin
Official totals trigger automatic recount
By Robert Vitale
The Columbus Dispatch
Monday, November 27, 2006 9:05 AM

Republican Deborah Pryce was declared the winner this morning of a central Ohio congressional race that remained too close to call until 20 days after the Nov. 7 election.

The four-member Franklin County Board of Elections certified final vote totals that gave Pryce the victory over Democrat Mary Jo Kilroy by 1,054 votes, a net loss of 2,482 from Pryce's unofficial election-night count.

The tighter margin is within the half-percent required to trigger an automatic recount, director Matthew Damschroder said.

Pryce, who declared “semi-victory” hours after the polls closed, will return to Washington for an 8th term if the results hold .

1. Dispatch does not say how many votes were cast
...RW GOP rag that it is. Dems blew the doors off of the gop in the election but we cannot take a majority in Congress or in the legislature in Ohio because the gops gerrymandered the districts. This really hurts with Wulsin apparently losing a very close race in the Ohio 2nd district, too (the Jean Schmidt race).

2. Automatic recount
this is the only good news here. There is a documented trail of hanky panky here. I am not optimistic that that election will be overturned--I really thought Mary Jo would win the final count--but it's not over til it's over.

3. Wulsin lost by 3200 votes, not as much of a squeaker as could be hoped.

4. It sure is depressing losing all these races by this close of margins
It means that their dirty tricks probably did cost us all these races. Between spoiled votes, voter suppression, vote flipping, registration hi-jinks, challenges, gerrymandering & you name it, I have no problem believing they have screwed us out of several more seats. Look how many were within a few thousand votes.

5. Sometimes you just lose
because the opponent just got more votes.

6. Automatic Recount... Not SO Fast
"Sometimes you just lose" Yes indeed. Sometimes Republicans just lose too.

9. Yep, and I hate to say it
but considering all that's happened, I've run out of sympathy for many of the people in the state. How anyone could vote Republican considering all the jobs that have been lost (Ohio leads the nation) -and all of the blatant corruption and communities that have been devastated by far right policies- well, that's just beyond me.

7. Unofficial count 3536 ahead, certified 1054? Accuracy, not speed.
Shows that ALL the votes need to be counted, accuracy over speed. It will be interesting to see what happens with the recount numbers.
