Attack sparks fire at Iraq oil facility
BAGHDAD, Iraq - A mortar attack ignited a huge fire Monday night at an oil facility in northern Iraq, shutting the flow of crude oil to a major refinery...

Two mortar rounds hit the pipeline filtering facility 15 miles northwest of Kirkuk, according to an official at the North Oil Co., speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to reporters.

2. Insurgents target oil sources, cause massive infernos
BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Insurgents Monday targeted key oil sites in Iraq, firing mortar rounds into an oil distribution center in northern Iraq and bombing a pipeline in a southern suburb of Baghdad, Iraqi officials said.

The attack on the oil distribution center triggered a massive fire that halted the flow of crude oil to Iraq's largest refinery, a Kirkuk police official said.

TWO (count 'em), TWO mortar rounds are enough to send worldwide oil prices climbing.

6. They lost the elections and it's time to take profits.
For some time it has been profitable to bomb your own pipeline on one end of the world so that you can raise oil prices everywhere else. Paying an "insurgent" in Nigeria $10K to lob a handfull of shells into a pipe farm now earns you $100 million in extra profits elsewhere.

Why not bomb your own facilities with that kind of profit motive. Hell, due diligence to your shareholders DEMANDS that you do this kind of skullduggery.

I love capitalism. The only system where total nuclear warfare is seen as a profit opportunity for insurance companies.

5. And Dubya will tell the Iraqis
that they are doing a heck of a job when he visits Jordan.

I suspect Texas crude is getting profitable to pump these days. Gotta keep that output low.
